I attended three different events during the first scholastic live period session to try and see as many of the local teams play as possible in a big weekend for college recruitment. In this article we will focus on the top wing and forward prospects that I saw at Maryland Live at the Severn School in Severna Park, MD. These prospects impacted the game in different ways as a passer, shooter, defender, or a good mix of all of the above. Let's dive in!

-Jones' activity level continues to impress as a wing prospect that is asked to handle forward responsibilities for an undersized but good Severn group that will need to replace the scoring production of several key graduating seniors. Jones' handle has improved to take advantage of the long strides that he takes on the way to the rim and improved finishing footwork (up fake, euro step, reverse pivot, etc) is leading to improved shooting percentages from all 3 levels. He has the commensurate quickness to track guards on the perimeter, understands the value of initiating contact to bump cutters away from vulnerable spots in the defense, and does his work early to hold his ground on the block with bigs. Really interested to track his development over the next season, should be prioritized by local small colleges.

-Sturdy forward prospect that plays hard at both ends of the floor and steadily improves his ball skills in between each time that I see him play basketball. Edwards took a defensive rebound C2C to score at the opposite end, is rotating much better to challenge shots around the rim, throws his weight around in the paint to carve out space for rebounds at both ends of the floor, and sets great screens on the perimeter to free up his guards. His touch around the rim continues to improve as he develops better spatial awareness for where he is under the basket on spin moves and PnR possessions at the rim. Interesting name to track in Baltimore's 2028 class.

-Big body forward prospect that improves his scoring touch and post footwork with each viewing. His strength to finish through contact has improved as has his catch radius on post entries. Want to see him do his work early a bit more often carving out space on the block so it's a simple turn and hook shot from the block before double teams can arrive. But he shows flashes of pick n pop ability from the elbows and shot-blocking rebound upside to balance out his long term projection as a physical four that can't be left open.

-I have a soft spot in my heart as an evaluator for wings that play hard at both ends of the floor. Burgess is definitely that as a strong wing prospect that uses his size to create separation on drives to the rim and to carve out space for rebounds around the basket. He scored off an AND1 finish at the rim after getting past his matchup at the top of the key, drove the ball C2C after grabbing a defensive rebound to dime a teammate under the rim, raced back defensively to block a shot and save a basket for his team. His willingness to guard multiple positions earns him the freedom to do a bit more offensively, and his usage allows Landon to deploy some big lineups.

-The skill progression from Goldman has been nice to see over the past year as he has improved both his handle and footwork in the paint to score in more creative ways this season. Goldman hit several spin move layups off the glass from the midpost (one being an AND1 bucket), showed that he's great at throwing passes from the perimeter with either hand, showed great footwork on the relocation to the corner for a 3 without looking down at his feet, hit a beautiful spin move away from the help to the paint off a baseline drive before cashing out a short floater, executed a pro hop in between 3 defenders to score at the rim, and has improved his off-ball instincts in the gap at the defensive end of the floor. Should be a priority for small college coaches looking for a high-IQ wing.
