Here are the underclassmen that opened some eyes at Saturday's Hoop Mountain Showcase.

[player_tooltip player_id='2632084' first='Daniel' last='Salkauskas'] | Brother Rice 2028

Salkauskas got off to a strong start, opening the game with a pair of catch-and-shoot triples from the top of the arc. The 6-foot-7 wing showed confidence early and continued his hot shooting in the second half, knocking down his third three-pointer during a key Brother Rice run. He spent much of the game operating on the perimeter, maintaining proper spacing and making himself available as a scoring threat. Salkauskas has long possessed intriguing talent and upside, and it was encouraging to see him put together a consistent performance from start to finish.

[player_tooltip player_id='2839941' first='Noah' last='VanTholen'] | Riverside-Brookfield 2028

My first look at VanTholen left a strong impression. The 6-foot-4 athletic guard thrives in open space and consistently put pressure on the defense by attacking downhill. He showcased his explosiveness with several acrobatic finishes around the basket while also displaying quality court vision as a secondary playmaker. Van Tholan is comfortable shooting from deep when defenders give him space and has the versatility to impact the game in multiple ways. He looks like one of the more complete young players Riverside-Brookfield has produced in recent years.

[player_tooltip player_id='2877539' first='Lester' last='Watson'] | Thornwood 2028

Entering his third varsity season, Watson is beginning to show greater poise and maturity as a lead guard. In Thornwood's convincing win over Nazareth, he used his defensive activity to generate offense, converting turnovers into easy transition baskets. In the half court, he played under control, got to his spots, and knocked down shots. Alongside fellow standout [player_tooltip player_id='2879381' first='Mekhi' last='Young'], Watson forms one of the better young backcourt tandems in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='3643306' first='Amari' last='Williams'] | Shepard 2028

The 6-foot-8 Astros big man had several productive stretches in Shepard's close loss to Oak Forest. Williams controlled the glass for much of the game, battling relentlessly for rebounds on both ends of the floor. While post touches were limited, he made the most of his scoring opportunities by converting second-chance points with drop steps and jump hooks. His rebounding presence and physicality continue to be valuable assets for Shepard.

[player_tooltip player_id='3579289' first='JP' last='Brock'] | Wheaton Academy 2028

Brock flashed his athleticism throughout the day, highlighted by an impressive steal and fast-break dunk. The 6-foot-3 guard also connected on a couple of shots from beyond the arc, showing his ability to stretch the floor. His combination of size and athletic tools makes him an intriguing prospect moving forward. As he continues to develop consistency in his overall game, his stock should continue to rise over the next two seasons.

[player_tooltip player_id='2862587' first='Dajuan' last='Brown'] | Bradley-Bourbonnais 2029

Brown continues to establish himself as one of the premier players in Illinois' 2029 class. The sturdy guard scored effectively at all three levels and repeatedly found ways to get to the basket. He has a strong feel for the game and stands out with how comfortably he handles the ball under pressure. Brown consistently made winning plays and was one of the most productive underclassmen in attendance.

[player_tooltip player_id='2921082' first='Titus' last='Payton'] | Andrew 2029

Payton offers a unique skill set for a 6-foot-7 forward. He handles the ball exceptionally well for his size and is comfortable creating offense off the dribble. His fluidity in the post allows him to score in a variety of ways, and as he continues to add strength, his finishing around the rim should improve. Payton also showed touch from the perimeter and displayed strong passing instincts, delivering several sharp passes to cutters for easy baskets. His versatility makes him one of the more intriguing young forwards in the area.

Here are the underclassmen that opened some eyes at Saturday's Hoop Mountain Showcase.
