This past weekend, I went and checked out the Monarch Sports-St. Mary's Summer Shootout. It was a fun environment that showcased numerous players and teams from across the state. It was a fantastic opportunity to see some serious emerging talent. Here are my standouts from the event:

[player_tooltip player_id='2194808' first='Carter' last='Bagley'] St. Mary's:

The stronger guard put on a show, showcasing his all-around skill on both ends. He was unconscious from behind the arc, hitting deep threes like they were layups. Once he starts to go downhill, he is a freight train and extremely hard to stop, so he gets a lot of easy layups around the basket. He perfectly uses his physical frame to punish defenders who challenge him. Expect him to be a primary option as he picks up a bigger load of the scoring this year for St. Mary's.

[player_tooltip player_id='2194803' first='Pierce' last='Harrington'] Saguaro:
The dynamic scoring guard out of Saguaro was a tough matchup for defenders all weekend. He is pure quick on quick, utilizing an explosive first step to get into the paint at will. Once he gets into the teeth of the defense, he showcases great touch and has some really crafty finishes around the rim. He plays with great energy and instincts. He will continue to get better as the season goes on.

[player_tooltip player_id='2266384' first='Aiden' last='Williams'] Brophy College Prep:

The versatile guard put on a show from the perimeter, making a number of threes this weekend. He was equally dominant on the defensive side of the ball, where he had amazing defensive instincts and forced numerous steals that led to easy layups. He anticipates passes beautifully and disrupts the opponent's rhythm. He handles pressure well and will be one of the primary options for a good Brophy team this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956217' first='PJ' last='Nowlin Jr'] Canyon View:

The high-motor wing out of Canyon View High School was a standout performer. He plays with great energy for his team and consistently competes at a high level. He brings a balanced scoring approach, as PJ can hit the catch-and-shoot 3 and attacks inside well when he sees a lane. On the other end, his versatility shines through on defense. He can guard his natural position but can also guard bigger opponents, making him a crucial two-way piece for his squad.

[player_tooltip player_id='2295694' first='Ben' last='Gruver'] Casteel:

The impactful guard out of Casteel High School was a major contributor all weekend. He made his presence felt this weekend by doing the dirty work and executing at a high level. On the offensive end, he was able to hit open shots, drive hard to the rim, and do anything the coach asked for to help the team win. He plays at a great pace, and because he can easily beat defenders, he constantly forces the defense to collapse. He is a smart, high-IQ basketball player and will be a big part of Casteel's success this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2466075' first='Jayvein' last='Moody'] Mountain Pointe:
The electric guard out of Mountain Pointe was a human highlight reel. The bouncy guard had some jaw-dropping plays this weekend, showing off his explosive athleticism. He is dynamic on the fast break, and when he gets out in transition, he takes off from super far back to finish with authority. He also provides great floor spacing, as the lefty shoots the three-ball with confidence as well. He has all the tools to be a major breakout player and will continue to improve.
