16U division had some dudes that really stood out and impacted winning all day long. Whether it was making big shots, setting the tone defensively, creating for others, or bringing energy that lifted their squad, guys were making real winning plays. You could tell which players understood the moment and knew how to affect the game beyond just scoring. I also liked how a lot of guys starred in their roles and embraced what their teams needed from them. Some controlled the pace, some made timely buckets, while others changed games with toughness, communication, rebounding, and effort plays. Overall, the 16U group brought good competition and had several players that proved they can be real difference makers when games get tight. Let's take a look at some of the hoopers that caught my eye over the weekend...

Strong, big-bodied guard that knows how to use his size to get to his spots. Mejia can push it in transition, read the floor, and make the right play with the ball in his hands. He has a nice handle for his frame and plays with good control, using his strength to create space and finish through contact. Far from just a one speed player, Mejia shows he can play with bursts and continuously squeezed his way wherever he wanted on the floor and making plays as a lead guard when he chose to.

Winners win, and Adrian Abara was definitely about finding ways to lead his team to wins as his Holbrook Hoops Hurricanes squad went 4-0 on the weekend. Calm, steady, and poised is what you get with Abara running the show. The heads-up guard consistently made winning plays whether it was getting a bucket himself or creating opportunities for teammates. I liked how he controlled the pace and never looked rushed, especially in key moments. Abara embraced his role as a leader and was a major reason his team stayed successful throughout the weekend. I'm interested to see how his game continues to translate in more big-time matchups, but he definitely established himself as one of the top guards in the 16U division.

Jesus plays with a super high motor and really shows a mature approach to the game. His straight-line speed puts defenders in bad spots and allows him to consistently get downhill into the paint, but he can also make shots from the perimeter when defenses back off. Super competitive player that impacts winning in multiple ways. Garzon does everything he can to make plays and help his team come out on top.

Rangy lefty with a lot of wiggle to his game and the confidence to go make plays. Definitely has the green light, and more times than not he delivers—whether it's getting to the rack or knocking down shots from deep. Plays hard, competes on every possession, and brings an aggressive scoring mentality that keeps pressure on the defense

Shooters gonna shoot — and Ryan Small is definitely gonna shoot. After knocking down three after three, it honestly became a head scratcher why defenders were still giving him clean looks. His confidence never wavered, and he single-handedly kept his squad in games with his focused shot-making ability. Whether spotting up or letting it fly in rhythm, Small stayed ready and made defenses pay. Easily one of the top shooters in the 16U division.
