South Finals: Top Eye Catchers From 16/17U

The Prep Hoops South Finals was a competitive event that brought out plenty of talent from different areas of the country. Each team wanted to be competitive to be able to reach the top of the tournament to participate in the championship games that concluded the event. These are the standouts that played the most competitive and gave their team advantages to win games.    [player_tooltip player_id='3650547' first='Kaleb' last='Jacobs'] is a guard for Houston Hoops North 16U who played a significant role in the team's dominant performance against BTB Select 16U. He created numerous transition opportunities by scoring layups and penetrating the opposing defense. This penetration allowed him to find open teammates in the half court. Additionally, Jacobs made sound decisions with the basketball at times.     Ethan Wilson, the paint presence for Houston Hoops North 16U, consistently made an effort to contribute to the team's rebounding department. In a recent game against BTB Select 16U, he showcased his skills by effectively finishing near the rim. Whether it was receiving a pass from his teammates in the offensive flow or cleaning up missed shots, Wilson demonstrated his ability to capitalize on opportunities. His positioning around the court allowed him to secure rebounds in both ends of the floor. Moreover, his size proved advantageous in maintaining his position in the paint.     Don [player_tooltip player_id='2548157' first='Carlos' last='Koontz'] is a floor general that plays for the Lubbock Panthers that continues to impress me with his play on the floor, offensively and defensively. On offense, he always has a sense of where his teammates are at within the offensive flow and when he is looking to score, he takes smart shots when the opportunity presents itself. With the ball in his hands, he always has a sense of making the right play that benefits the team's point total. When going downhill, he finds ways to finish around the rim and find his teammates in the process. Defensively he generates steals in multiple situations on that end of the floor.     Marcus Boyd out of the 3rd Coast Bucks 16U was a natural scorer that made it look easy throughout the South Finals weekend. With the ball in his hands, he had a burst of speed and athleticism that was hard to stop in 1 on 1 situations for opposing defenders guarding him. I was really impressed on how he was able to react to counters as he regularly played off his pivot to shoot fadeaway jumpers from multiple spots on the floor. Alot of the times within the office of flow, it seems like he knows what he's about to do with his next move and does a good job of executing. When going downhill he likes to use his shoulders to create space between him and his defenders. Marcus was my best prospect in the 16U division throughout the weekend.     [player_tooltip player_id='3639450' first='Draven' last='Carrejo'] is the interior presence for the Lubbock Panthers 16U that stood out due to his rim protection defensively and ability to create easy opportunities at the rim offensively. Carrejo was able to protect the rim with his ability to rebound the basketball on both ends of the floor while giving his team second chance opportunities on the offensive end. Offensively, he was able to create easy opportunities at the rim due to his effort in running the floor and cleaning up missed shots from his teammates.
