Magic Memorial: 17u W/F/C Standouts

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>ORANGE, Calif. — The annual Compton Magic Memorial Day event featured a strong contingent of local programs and prospects from the classes of 2026 through 2029. We took in two days worth of action over the holiday weekend at Orange Lutheran high school and below are the standout wings, forwards and center performers from the 17u level.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":4} --> <h4 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='2815162' first='Carson' last='Butler'] | 2027 | Compton Magic</h4> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Butler showed his intriguing next-level skill-set throughout the weekend as a skilled and versatile four-man who impacts the game offensively with touch inside and out with the ability to stretch the floor to the three-point line. Butler is mobile in transition, has a strong frame with room to fill out more and has shown flashes of improved ball handling skills on the perimeter. The 6-foot-8 forward has Division 1 potential as a modern-style forward.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":4} --> <h4 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='3016397' first='Daniel' last='Bol'] | 2027 | Gamepoint</h4> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Bol continued his stock-rising spring with a strong performance at Magic Memorial. The 6-foot-8 junior used his combination of length, athleticism, agility and quick vertical leaping ability to score at the rim on drives and was an effective floor-spacer with his ability to hit off-catch three-point shots. Bol's physical and athletic tools set him up to have a chance to be a versatile defensive player.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":4} --> <h4 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='2194355' first='Gene' last='Roebuck'] | 2027 | Dream Vision</h4> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Roebuck had his scoring arsenal on full display over the weekend. The 6-foot-5 wing has one of the most advanced scoring packages in the state and was hitting jumpers from all areas and angles of the floor, contested, off the bounce and when using his footwork and ability to create space to get open looks in isolation. The La Mirada high school junior is a wired-to-score prospect with high level shot creating feel.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":4} --> <h4 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='2916692' first='Josh' last='Ayaji'] | 2027 | Compton Magic</h4> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Ayaji made the most of his extra playing time for the short-handed Compton Magic squad and made himself into a momentum swinging defender and transition offensive player. The 6-foot-4 wing used his long, wiry frame, quick reaction time and instincts to make plays on the ball in passing lanes and pressure opposing ball handlers. Offensively, Ayaji is best as a slasher and finisher in transition and off-ball cutter in the half-court.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":4} --> <h4 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='2436264' first='Nick' last='Welch Jr.'] | 2027 | California Gold</h4> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Welch put on a skills clinic in helping lead California Gold to both the BattleCup and BattleZone 17u Division championships. The junior center was scoring around the basket with skill and physicality and had defenders in the popcorn machine as they bit on his shot fakes and footwork which allowed him to create angles to score around the rim. Welch also showed off some perimeter game with a couple impressive baseline fadeaway jumpers.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading {"level":4} --> <h4 class="wp-block-heading">[player_tooltip player_id='2965868' first='Yann' last='Kamagate'] | 2028 | Compton Magic</h4> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Kamagate is still very much a raw all-around prospect but he does things athletically - and physically - that are unteachable. The 7-footer is a quick vertical athlete which leads to countless altered and blocked shots at the rim and he has impressive anticipation when reacting to and getting a hand on jump shots. Offensively, Kamagate is most impactful as a finisher above the rim when running the floor, as a lob threat and on offensive rebound put-backs.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
