The future is bright for the classes of 2031 and 2032. These young players showed a lot of promise over the weekend!

Azaryah Westbrook 5-11- 2031- Southwood Middle School- Seven 10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u

Azaryah is the “glue guy” for Seven10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u. He's a great rebounder who didn't mind doing all the "dirty work" needed to help the team win. He effectively set screens that freed his teammates for high percentage shots. Azaryah is a hard worker who hustles on every play. He was great at grabbing rebounds and scoring in the paint. Where he really excelled was on defense. Azaryah dominated by turning away Overlooked Elite Red 12u players when they attacked the paint. He's an athletic player who runs the court and finishes strong at the rim. The majority of his scores came from put-backs around the basket. On defense, he finished the game with 2 blocks and a steal. Once he develops more on offense, I believe Azaryah could become a special player in the coming years.

JD Jenkins 5-4- 2031- Schrum Memorial Middle School- Seven 10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u

JD was a serious problem for opposing coaches and players. I have always had an appreciation for smaller players who play with a fearless mentality. JD is what I call a "quiet assassin." He's the type of player who can score a quick ten points and you wouldn't notice. After watching him play, I understood why he seemed perfect as the lead guard of the team. In my opinion, quiet players are the most dangerous. They don't allow any obstacle to deter them from doing whatever it takes to win. JD showed the ability to score from all areas of the court. He easily beat defenders off the dribble, attacked the basket, knocked down jump-shots or dished off pasess to his teammates. Defensively, he pressed opposing guards into mistakes. JD is an awesome player who is destined to do big things.

KJ Turner 5-1- 2032- Michelle O'Bama Middle School- Seven 10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u

I fell in love with this kid's game over the weekend. KJ was the smallest but toughest player on the court. He's an excellent scorer who always looked to pressure the Overlooked Elite Red 12u defense. KJ stayed in “attack mode” as soon as he stepped off the bench. Whether it was breaking down defenders, scoring in the paint or knocking down three-pointers, KJ was a big problem for opposing guards to handle. There was a sequence in the game where he made two consecutive scores to get his team back in the game. As time went on, he began to mix in passing with his scoring output. The majority of his assists led to easy baskets for Seven 10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u. Defensively, he played hard and forced turnovers. He finished the game with three steals. KJ is a fierce combo guard who has a chance of becoming great in the near future.

Kaleb Lewis 5-6- 2032 Michelle O'Bama Middle School- Seven 10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u

Kaleb showed his prowess as a scorer and defender over the weekend. He was great at driving by defenders, scoring at the basket and making plays for other teammates. In some instances, he was able to score through contact. These scores led to three-point play opportunities from the foul-line. Kaleb calmly stepped to the line and completed the play. He's also a great rebounder. Kaleb battled for rebounds with the same ferocity he had when he looked to score. When there were opportunities to knock down mid or long range shots, he didn't hesitate to do so. Defensively, he was great at using his length to be disruptive. He forced multiple steals and blocked a number of the opposing team's shots. Kaleb is a great player who's effective on both ends of the court. As he continues to grow and mature, I believe Kaleb has all the traits of an elite player of the future.

[player_tooltip player_id='3593236' first='Clinton' last='Cunningham'] 5-4- 2032- Guion Creek Middle School- Overlooked Elite Red 12u

I was thoroughly impressed with his play at lead guard over the weekend. Clinton showed why he was the best play-maker in their matchup against Seven10/Mac Irvin Fire 12u. Whether it was scoring, passing, defending or being a leader, Clinton was the catalyst for the team's success. In his one-on-one match-ups, he easily drove around opponents and made plays in the paint. He either scored or made passes to his teammates around the basket. Clinton showed the ability to knock down mid-range shots. If there was an opportunity to extend his range beyond the three-point line, he didn't hesitate to take the shot. Clinton is a shifty guard who blows by opponents, makes clutch plays and shows great leadership. Clinton will continue to progress with growth and maturity. Keep working Clinton!!

Tyler excels at getting to the rim. A good amount of his baskets came through contact. This led to three-point play chances from the foul-line. Some he converted, some he did not. I was impressed by his drive to score every time the opportunity presented itself. Whenever Overlooked Elite Red 12u had chances to push the pace, Tyler ran the floor and finished strong in transition. When he had a chance to score on the perimeter, Tyler had no problems taking advantage of the situation. On defense, he was great at applying pressure on the opposition. He finished the game with three steals and a block. Tyler is an excellent team player who is an effective piece of the puzzle for the Overlooked Elite Red 12u team. Keep working Tyler!!
