The Centennial State Cup happened last weekend, and I went back to watch games online to see what I missed. I watched multiple games of these teams, and these players left me curious about what they could be, as they are talented and dynamic. They all had different skill sets, different roles, but all of them had stretches where the game looked natural for them, and the impact started stacking up. These are the 2029 prospects that became hard to ignore.

Use code dev30 for 30% off and secure access as we're going through rankings and got you covered for the grassroots season. At the Centennial State Cup, he constantly pressured defenses with his downhill mentality and pace. He's a natural transition scorer who gets on the break and plays free. He attacked open space aggressively and lived at the free-throw line because of how hard he got to the rim. He's a relentless downhill attacker, and guards have a difficult time slowing him down. What stood out most was how effortless the scoring looked at times. He was finishing around bigs, powering through smaller players, and he made quick reactions. He's a smooth scorer who found his rhythm early in the tourney and did not look bag. With his added defensive value too, using his twitch and timing to challenge shooters and make momentum-changing plays make him an intriguing player worth following.

Slofstra quietly pieced together one of the better weekends from a feel standpoint that I saw at the 15U level. He operated effectively as a high-post playmaker, flashing into open space and making quick reads once the defense collapsed. He either kicked it out to the open man to keep the offense flowing, mixed in crafty finishes, floaters, and also had a few tough and-1 conversions through contact. His ability to create angles off the dribble and find teammates along the baseline gave his game a level of versatility that continued to pop and had [program_tooltip program_id='2378749' first='Colorado' last='Lightning']'s offense looking elite. He's a player to watch moving forward.

McCann is a new name to follow as he seems to impact the game with positioning, toughness, and understanding of how to operate within structure. He understands where to be on the floor to make plays happen, and we saw that at Centennial State Cup. He also benefited from actions designed to free him around the basket, where he finished efficiently and kept the ball high. Defensively, he anchored plays by communicating and rotating early, which fills holes where his guards went for steal opportunities, and he made up for it. He rebounds well and consistently, and even stretched the floor at times to show off a bit of range. It does look like he's still developing physically and skill-wise, but the foundation and instincts are easy to buy into long-term. Certainly want to see more there as there's promise.

Brondel has been one of the top standouts in the 2029 class in both Prep Hoops tourneys to start grassroots, and is a player that I am curious to see how his game translates as he gets older and the speed picks up. Right now, he's wheeling and dealing at this age group. Brondel is a knockdown shooter who doesn't need much room to get his shot up. Once his feet are set, it looks good, and he stays shot-ready. He's coming off screens ready to shoot, he reads the defender to see if he needs to backdoor, and he moves on offense to find holes in the defense. He's also a very solid rebounder for his size who grabs boards in traffic. There were a few times he had no business coming out with the rebound, but he finds a way. He scores inside and out, knows his way around the basket, and is a player who knows how to create easy scoring opportunities, where he had multiple mini runs in the Centennial State Cup that made me realize that it wasn't only one solid weekend, but there's something there. I want to see more from him, but I am certainly liking his play right now.

This is our second time writing about him in the last month, but that is because he truly does pop for me, and in a “I think he could be conference POY by senior year” category. He truly does intrigue me with his versatility and ability to affect the game with his play. He's the engine for that [program_tooltip program_id='2078368' first='Colorado' last='Titans'] squad and makes something happen almost every time that he touches the ball. He had low drop layups, creative finishers around the basket, and showcased himself as a knockdown shooter as well. He was setting up plays on the offensive end by the time that he reached half-court, which shows that he sees the plays before they happen. He has solid court awareness, made the right passes, scored in bunches, and is a very balanced and talented player. He has good size for a guard and fills it up. I certainly want to see more of him as he's really high on my list of players who have caught my attention in this class.
