I attended the annual Prep Hoops AZ Bash in the Desert at the Phhacility in Phx May 1-3.

I viewed nearly every team in the 17U division but also saw some 15 and 16U teams. And here were some of the top small forwards.

15-16U Standout SF's

[player_tooltip player_id='2552795' first='Chase' last='Forman'] Chaparral (AZ Storm 16)

A good sized wing forward is a catch and shoot type from mid to the three point line. He will get hot from deep quickly and also drive the lane and score it reverse layups around the traffic. He can rebound and push the ball. He can be one of their go-to pieces this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id='3457363' first='Jacob' last='Jensen'] Willow Canyon (AZ Storm 16)

A bigger wing forward was playing up holding his own. He plays the game like a lead guard and makes smart reads. He will also fill it up with high flying layups using amazing body control around the basket, hit the three off the catch and he is a very good rebounder. He uses his twitch and bounce to explode up to corral the ball off the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='2825320' first='Dasaan' last='Schaeffer'] Cesar Chavez (AZ Legacy 16 3SGB)

A thicker framed downhill type with some size, skill and a whole lot of toughness. He is another that can handle the ball well and makes good decisions. He can hit from mid-range and often will play thru heavy contact or get fouled.

[player_tooltip player_id='2735455' first='Tarik' last='Slaughter'] Pinnacle ([program_tooltip program_id='2076648' first='Peak' last='Basketball'] 16 Rise)

A long and twitchy wing forward has a tough game. He takes very long strides to get downhill to the basket and can plays and defend multiple positions. He can score it with mid-range pull-ups and plays the game with a plus motor to get on the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='2767903' first='Jacobi' last='Thompson II'] Arcadia (Vegas Elite 15 EYBL)

There was no official MVP of the 16U division, but if there was it would have been Thompson II. He scores it every way with mid-range fall aways, threes, cuts off the ball and highlight dunks way above the rim with his quick handle. He also threw up the court passes with some needle threaders and was arguably one of the best passers in all of 16U playing up. Lastly, he seems to get every 50/50 ball with his athleticism and motor.

[player_tooltip player_id='2550840' first='Austin' last='Turner'] Perry (UH Elite 16) (Pictured)

A point forward type has advanced court vision but he showed he can score and defend multiple positions. He will fill it up with threes off the catch or pull, get downhill with bursts and euro steps, dunk it on the break but also is on the glass. He will cover in space and block shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='2918860' first='Isaiah' last='Woodson'] Somerset Losee/NV (Vegas Elite 15 EYBL)

A newcomer for me was another point forward type who fills up the stat sheet. He does so many little things to affect an outcome. He will score with offensive rebound put backs, threes off the catch, smartly cuts to the basket and dunks it easily. He will block shots and rebounds at a good clip.
