PH Midwest Showdown: Underrated Shooters

This weekend in Appleton we were able to witness a lot of talented scorers that filled up the statsheets. There were quite a few high scoring performances, but as always, some scorers went under the radar. Here are six players that shot the ball well, and made impactful plays for their teams this weekend at the Midwest Showdown at the Champions Center.    Leyton is one of the multiple shooters for the 15u [program_tooltip program_id='3502082' first='Team' last='Compete'] club out of Southwestern Wisconsin. In his morning game versus Champan Basketball Academy South, Leyton was able to shake free of aggressive defense and physicality to drill a few deep perimeter shots. Donnelly has a very quick trigger from beyond the arc and fundamental footwork to able to hit shots off the bounce, off screens, and on drive and kick opportunities.     One of the many talented players on the Milwaukee Trailblazers club team, Olszewski is a dynamic shot maker. Jack hit a deep three in the afternoon game I watched him and has a quick and efficient release. Outside of his ability to shoot the basketball, I was impressed with Olszewski's ability to create downhill, pivot correctly around the rim, and score at the rim. Olszewski is perfect in the Trailblazer's dribble drive motion offense with his natural ability to get to the rim with his skillset. In the victory over the Northern Lakers, Jack finished with 11 points and was impressive on both sides of the basketball.     Koplien competes with [program_tooltip program_id='2078394' first='Team' last='1848'] that went up against a talented Mpls only us squad. Koplein despite the score of the game was impressive in his ability to knock down shots. The left handed wing player was able to drill multiple three point buckets from well beyond the arc to help his team get points on the board. Koplien was able to create his own shot off the bounce, knocking down some smooth mid range jumpers when the defenders started to come out on him more. Cody has good footwork and can use his ball handling to create open looks for him and his 1848 teammates.     Gregory was one of the many impressive players from this team based out of Minneapolis. Juke is a sniper shooter with deep range that was fully on display in his game against [program_tooltip program_id='2078394' first='Team' last='1848'] on Saturday. Gregory in addition to his strong shooting performance throughout the weekend, is an aggressive and pesky defender that can lock up his matchup on the defensive end. Juke is able to generate deflections, steals, and heat up the other team's backcourt players to help turn offense into defense in transition.     Shamir impressed me throughout the weekend as All Wisconsin played in the top pool in 17u. Shamir has improved greatly adding a little bit to his game when I have been able to watch him during the high school and club season. It is apparent that Senyange has spent a lot of time getting shots up in the off-season over the last ten months as he hit shots consistently this weekend in Appleton. The left-handed sniper was able to drain shots off drive and kick opportunities this weekend with ease. Outside of his ability on the perimeter, Senyange competes extremely hard, can defend at a high level, and can create shots for his teammates.     I was able to watch Chase in the first game of the weekend as they took on [program_tooltip program_id='2078394' first='Team' last='1848']. The first thing that stands out about Myers is his ability and confidence from the perimeter. The 2029 guard prospect is always looking at the rim when he catches on the perimeter and his able to quickly get shots up from deep. He knocked down two buckets from downtown in the Dynasty's 37-50 loss on Friday night. Chase is able to create his own shot off the bounce as he is extremely quick and is capable of heating up his matchup on the defensive end.
