This article will expand on my coverage of the Houston Heat Check event this weekend, taking place at MI3 Center in Houston. I was able to watch mostly the 16u division, but I did catch a few games of the 17u age group, and some impressive crunch time play definitely caught my eye. During this excerpt, I will dive into covering players who found their way onto my radar for the rest of this AAU season with some strong performances to end Sunday the right way before traveling home.

The game I was able to watch [player_tooltip player_id='2557213' first='Tripp' last=''] Robinson in was during Proskills' Dallas final game on Sunday against the Waco Kings 17u. Robinson hit several crunch time shots for Proskills to climb back into the game, despite being down by 20+ points at one point in the first half. He showcases great ability to shoot the ball off the dribble and if you let him get to his spots, he will beat you with clutch shots. I love [player_tooltip player_id='2557213' first='Tripp' last='']'s ability to handle the ball under pressure and lead his team with vocal defense and orchestrating the offensive approach. He has good hustle when going for loose balls and he never fails to give 100%.

Ralph Debonis was one of the best point guards I observed this weekend and consistently made plays for his teammates all day on Sunday afternoon. The 2028 guard uses high IQ court awareness and quick speed to find openings in the defense and consistently give his team open looks at the basket or from deep range. Debonis hit some key shots off the dribble from the top of the key and helped his team cap off a couple wins to end the tournament the right way. Not many guards I've watched this summer play a more fundamental game than Ralph and he definitely cares more about being pass first than his own stat lines.

[player_tooltip player_id='3511185' first='Jace' last='Toole'] used his size and mobility to dominate the post and midrange during 1 Nation's Sunday win over In and Out Elite 16u. Toole efficiently knocked down elbow jumpers and helped his team stretch out the lead over the course of the game. Jace constantly found mismatches in the paint and took advantage using a strong frame and long wingspan to finish over the top of defenders. Jace has good speed in transition and finishes well at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='3510951' first='Jermaine' last='Douglas'] used great defensive instincts and clutch scoring on offense to make his presence known on the court. Coming off the bench for 1 Nation 16u Debonis, Jermaine definitely earned every minute of his playing time with aggressive perimeter defense, great fastbreak decision making, and a soft but quick paint touch on his layups at the basket. Douglas is a quick and shifty guard who uses speed and a variety of dribble moves to beat defenders often and convert with ease.

[player_tooltip player_id='2557805' first='Jayden' last='Salazar'] is a shifty and high scoring combo guard that defenses have to watch out for on a daily basis. He never lets the opposition know his next move and his perimeter defensive awareness allows him to play passing lanes and get steals leading to transition points. He plays at a consistent pace, creating favorable scoring situations for himself and his teammates on his Steam Ahead squad.
