The state champs in Class 1A just two years ago, Madrid lost some pivotal seniors heading into the 2025-26 season. Still a competitive bunch, the Tigers posted a 20-5 overall record, falling to Woodbine in the substate championship, 56-51. Looking to next year, though, Madrid looks to return every single player on its roster, not losing a single senior from this season's team.

Headling the group is Power 4 football recruit, [player_tooltip player_id='2439640' first='Jevyn' last='Severson']. Holding offers from programs like Iowa, Indiana, Florida, Penn State, Tennessee, Utah and others, Severson is one of the more coveted prospects in the Midwest. His athleticism and overall talent translates to the court, too. Averaging 24.5 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 65.3% from the floor, the 6-foot-6 big uses smooth, quick moves around the rim to score with ease while also possessing an excellent handle and control of the ball for his size. Earning First-Team All-State honors in 1A and in the Class of 2028, Severson is one of those prospects that could play multiple sports at the Division I level, if he really wanted to. With football on the mind of the future P4 tight end, it looks like his future will be on the gridiron, but if his play has anything to say, he may be a multi-time state basketball champion by the time it's all said and done.

Another football prospect, [player_tooltip player_id='2420789' first='Emerson' last='Bridgewater'] returns for Madrid next season. A tight end on the other side of the Tiger offensive line, Bridgewater's game translates to the basketball court, too. The 2027 forward put up 11.3 points, 7 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game last season for Madrird. A bit thinner than Severson, the 6-foot-7 Bridgewater isn't quite able to impose his will quite like his gargantuan teammate does on the glass or in the paint, but his complementary play earned him a spot on the First-Team All-Conference and First-Team All-Substate squads this last winter.

The double-digit scoring doesn't stop there for the Tigers, as another 2028 star, Logan Bogardus puts up 10.3 points per game, adding 3.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in the backfourt. Standing at 5-foot-9, the speedy guard provides just another standout player that opposing teams must account for when taking on Madrid. Shooting 34.9% from three -- second to just Severson, who made 35.7% from deep last season -- Bogardus provides some much-needed floor spacing that allows Seveson and Bridgewater to go to work in the post. Maybe the X-Factor for a team with state title hopes, if Bogardus can get that three-point percentage up closer to 40%, the Tigers are going to be awfully difficult to beat next season, loaded with talent from the junior and senior classes.
