It was intense. It swung with momentum shifts.

But when the decisive stretches arrived, Westlake controlled them, and that control carried the Chaps forward.

Harlan Brings the Early Edge

Harlan came out with deliberate, grinding energy. Every passing lane was contested. Cuts were bodied. Ball pressure was constant.

Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='2558382' first='Jzackery' last='Deleon'] and junior [player_tooltip player_id='2557884' first='Jordan' last='Mangum'] pushed tempo aggressively in transition, attacking seams and collapsing the defense. Their penetration created opportunities for freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2767880' first='London' last='Jackson'] and junior forward [player_tooltip player_id='2251035' first='Amoni' last='Francis'].

Jackson showed poise beyond his years, attacking downhill and finishing through contact. Francis established himself early inside, rebounding in traffic and converting tough paint touches. He even stepped comfortably into midrange jumpers when the defense sagged.

It was a frenetic first quarter, and Harlan's edge was evident.

But Westlake never looked rattled.

Westlake Settles In

The Chaps responded the way experienced playoff teams do with defensive discipline.

Junior Powell Frickenschmidt, senior Joel Cannati, junior Alex Allen, and Mack Martin tightened the screws on the perimeter. Deflections turned into transition opportunities. Rotations became sharper. The tempo began to shift.

And once Westlake settled offensively, everything flowed through senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='1560944' first='Bo' last='Ogden'].

Ogden dissected the defense early with precision — spraying passes to Joel Cannati and twin brother Blake Cannati, both of whom knocked down perimeter shots to establish rhythm.

At the end of a physical opening quarter, Westlake led by one.

Second Quarter: The Shift

Harlan made another push.

Francis established a deep position on back-to-back possessions. Mangum made plays on both ends of the floor. Jackson broke free for a strong finish at the rim.

But championship-caliber teams answer runs.

Ogden began to find his scoring rhythm fighting through double teams, sprinting off screens, and rising confidently into his smooth jumper. Frickenschmidt and the Cannati twins were disruptive defensively, generating steals and turning them into transition points.

Inside, Junior Mack Martin and Allen controlled the glass and anchored team defense.

The game subtly tilted.

Westlake's defense fueled their offense, and the Chaps entered halftime with a 26–19 advantage.

Ogden Takes Control

Coming out of the break, Harlan was intentional. The Hawks fed Francis inside, drawing fouls and finishing high-low action with Jackson. Deleon and Mangum applied full-court pressure and created turnovers. Mangum drilled a three-pointer that energized the crowd.

For several possessions, it was a heavyweight exchange.

Then Ogden took ownership.

A three off a pin-down screen.
An off-the-dribble three when the defender sagged.
A confident attack to the rim.

Martin added a timely three of his own, and the Chaps began to separate. What was once a tight contest quietly became a nine-point margin.

By the end of the third quarter, Westlake led 43–28.

That stretch defined the game.

Harlan's Fight

To their credit, Harlan never quit.

Francis electrified the gym with a powerful dunk and followed it with a clutch and-one finish. The Hawks tightened defensively and mixed in full-court pressure to disrupt Westlake's rhythm.

But Westlake responded with maturity.

The Chaps spaced the floor, executed dribble hand-offs, made the extra pass, and forced Harlan to defend through multiple actions each possession. When rotations broke down, Ogden capitalized. When defenders overcommitted, he got to the foul line.

That's playoff composure.

The Difference

Harlan's toughness was real. Jackson and Francis are a formidable duo with tremendous upside, and this Hawks group competes at a high level.

But Westlake's balance was the separator.

It wasn't just Ogden's shot-making.
It was the team defense.
The rebounding.
The execution in key stretches.
The ability to control tempo when it mattered most.

The Chaps advance.

[program_tooltip program_id='3073379' first='Next' last='up'] is Clemens (Schertz), and at this stage of the playoffs, the margins only tighten.

If this performance was any indication, Westlake is prepared for what's ahead.
