The Tampa Bay area is loaded with talent on both ends, and these five players separated themselves as the most impactful defenders in the region.    Broxton's defensive presence goes far beyond the stat sheet. At 6'10, he averaged 1.8 blocks per game, but his true impact is his intimidation factor. Opponents think twice before attacking the rim, and many avoid it entirely when he's in the paint. Broxton took a major step forward as a senior, improving his discipline by contesting shots without fouling and staying on the floor. His size, presence, and control make him one of the most dominant rim protectors in the area. The dual-sport athlete will continue his career at Davenport University, where he will also make history as their tallest football player ever.     McLendon plays defense with a different level of intensity. The sophomore averaged 2.7 steals per game while taking on the toughest perimeter assignments for a Jesuit team that reached the Class 5A Final Four. He thrives on pressure, forcing turnovers and disrupting offenses at the point of attack. McLendon also has a strong feel for taking charges, adding another layer to his defensive impact. With his motor and instincts, he's a key piece for Jesuit moving forward.     Soto put together one of the most impressive defensive seasons in the region. Averaging 3.4 steals per game, he constantly lived in passing lanes and created chaos for opposing offenses. His activity on and off the ball made him a turnover machine, highlighted by a 13-steal performance that helped secure Northeast's first quadruple-double in school history. Soto's ability to consistently generate extra possessions makes him a clear All-Defensive selection.     Shirley was a bright spot for Lakewood, handling major responsibilities on both ends of the floor. While leading the team in assists offensively, he also took on the challenge of guarding top perimeter players. The senior averaged 2.8 steals per game, using his athleticism, effort, and competitiveness to impact games defensively. His energy and leadership stood out all season.     Thomas has built a reputation as a defensive menace, and this season only strengthened it. He averaged an impressive 3.5 steals per game during a turnaround year for Canterbury, consistently disrupting opposing offenses. His defensive instincts have been evident throughout his career, as he was already averaging nearly 3 steals per game as a sophomore. With another year ahead, Thomas has the potential to elevate his game even further as Canterbury continues to rise.    Defense may not always make the highlight reels, but it defines winning basketball. These five players proved that on every possession and earned their place as the top defenders in the Tampa Bay area.
