CLASS 2A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

TEXICO 58, REHOBOTH CHRISTIAN 46

How it happened: Texico jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead after a couple of minutes before Rehoboth Christian found its footing with a couple of baskets. The Wolverines shot 50 percent (7-14) from the field and held Rehoboth Christian to 27.3 percent shooting (3-11) in the first quarter en route to a 16-6 lead after eight minutes. Texico led 20-11 when Lynx standout [player_tooltip player_id='2827325' first='Trajen' last='West'] hit a short baseline jumper. After Texico hit a 3-pointer, West's conventional 3-point play moved the Lynx to within 23-16 midway through the second quarter. The Wolverines hit another 3 to restore its double-digit lead, 26-16. Excellent interior passing by Texico produced another basket. Texico continued to dominate the offensive glass in the closing minutes of the first half. At halftime, the Wolverines had eight offensive rebounds compared to six defensive rebounds for Rehoboth Christian. West scored 12 of the Lynx's 16 points in the first half, while Texico was led by [player_tooltip player_id='2833696' first='Jett' last='Curtis'] with 9.

Rehoboth Christian needed to a good start to the second half if they wanted to mount another comeback win. But Texico scored the first points on a transition layup after a turnover. Two minutes into the third quarter, Rehoboth Christian had yet to score a point and trailed, 31-16. Kodah Chapman's jumper finally gave the Lynx their first point. Moments later, West drained a 3 from the corner. Then a steal and layup made it a 7-0 run for RC and the Lynx were suddenly within eight points at 31-23. Jaheim Moses came alive for Texico with a pair of short jumpers. Austin Hakma's triple from the corner lifted Texico into a 40-27 lead in the final minute of the third quarter. A putback basket at the buzzer gave the Wolverines a 42-27 lead – and polished off an 11-4 Texico run - after three quarters.

West boosted Rehoboth Christian's hopes for a comeback with a conventional 3-point play to cut the gap to 42-30. After a Texico basket, the Lynx buried a 3-pointer to make it 44-33 and the Wolverines called timeout. Rehoboth moved to within 9 points (44-35) on a lane jumper. Two free throws reduced the deficit to eight (45-37). A defensive stop by the Lynx had the RC crown roaring. But missed opportunities and a fast break layup by Curtis gave Texico a 10-point lead at 47-37 when timeout was called with 2:58 left. Thijs Meester's 3-pointer from the corner gave the Lynx hope at 49-41 with under two minutes left. But back-to-back layups by Texico pushed the Wolverines' lead back to 12 at 53-41 with less than a minute left. West's steal and 3-pointer made it 55-46 with 35 seconds left before Texico closed out the wire-to-wire win with free throws, completing the football-basketball championship double in Class 2A for the second consecutive year.

CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

ST. MICHAEL'S 70, ROBERTSON 57

How it happened: Robertson's [player_tooltip player_id='2216708' first='Michael' last='Marr'] made his presence felt early with a driving layup over the taller St. Michael's defenders for the game's first basket. After that, the two teams went back-and-forth exchanging mid and long range jumpers. An offensive rebound putback and a transition bucket gave St. Michael's an 11-7 lead midway through the first quarter. The Horsemen's length and defensive pressure began to have an effect. [player_tooltip player_id='2394870' first='Kamal' last='Stith']'s 3-pointer gave St. Michael's a 18-8 lead and forced Robertson to call timeout to figure out how to deal with St. Michael's tenacity and height advantage. Robertson got a much-needed triple from [player_tooltip player_id='2892345' first='Marcus' last='Montoya'] to move to within 20-13 in the final minute of the 1Q. But [player_tooltip player_id='2394866' first='Donevan' last='Ricker']'s layup closed out the scoring in the first quarter as St. Michael's led, 22-13, after eight minutes.

The gap stayed at nine after three minutes of the second quarter. Montoya's deep 3-pointer after an offensive rebound sliced the deficit to six (24-18) midway through the frame. St. Michael's finally scored its second basket of the quarter on a driving layup. Robertson quickly answered and St. Michael's took a 26-20 lead into a timeout with 2:43 left in the second quarter. A technical free throw and short jumper by Stith out of St. Michael's motion offense gave the Horsemen a 30-20 lead with about a minute left. St. Michael's led, 30-21, at halftime. The big story of the first half was St. Michael's inability to make free throws. The Horsemen were just 4-of-12 from the FT line. St. Michael's dominated in the paint (18-6) and second chance points (12-5). [player_tooltip player_id='2827261' first='Dillan' last='McCoy'] led St. Michael's with 12 points and Stith had 11. [player_tooltip player_id='2216707' first='Nathan' last='Gonzales'] had 8 points and 5 rebounds for Robertson in the first half. The two teams were a combined 6-of-30 from the field in the first half.

Robertson scored the first four points of the third quarter before Noah Redus backed down into the paint for St. Michael's first field goal of the 3Q. After an exchange of baskets, Robertson's Brian Rubin nailed a triple from the corner to cut the Horsemen's lead to 34-30. Then a steal and layup by the Cardinals followed by two free throws by Montoya tied the score at 34-34 midway through the third quarter. McCoy's 3-pointer from the wing stopped Robertson's surge and gave St. Michael's a 38-34 lead with 3:07 left in the 3Q. Robertson came out of a timeout and promptly scored 6 of the first 8 points. Marr's 3-pointer from the corner tied the score at 40-40 with about 1:20 left in the 3Q. McCoy's steal and score off an inbounds pass jumpstarted an 8-2 run for St. Michael's to close out the 3rd quarter. The Horsemen led, 48-42, going into the final frame.

The fourth quarter started fast with both teams quickly scoring multiple baskets. Redus' offensive rebound bucket was countered by Marr's triple as the Horsemen led, 54-50, heading into a timeout with 6:06 left. McCoy's breakaway layup off a Robertson turnover pushed the lead to 56-50 but the Cardinals again answered. [player_tooltip player_id='2706580' first='Ryan' last='Hunt']'s putback made it 58-52 with 3-1/2 minutes left. McCoy again scored on a driving layup and that basket was followed by a Horsemen dunk in transition for a 62-52 double digit lead as St. Michael's began to take control. Gonzales fouled out, eliminating Robertyson's main big man threat against the taller Horsemen. St. Michael's led, 65-54, with 2 minutes left. The Horsemen had an opportunity to seal the deal but missed a 3-pointer. Marr drove to the basket was blocked and Robertson was called for a technical foul with 52.7 seconds left. Then another technical was whistled on Robertson. When the free throws were done, St. Michael's led, 68-54, with 51.2 seconds left. The Horsemen went on to secure the title and complete the Class 3A football-basketball double for the 2025-26 year.

Key Stats: St. Michael utilized its height advantage to full effect, grabbing 28 offensive rebounds compared to 23 defensive rebounds for Robertson. As a result, St. Michael's scored a staggering 44 points in the paint and 28 second chance points. The Horsemen outrebounded Robertson, 50-35.
