State Championship Game MVP Performances

In this article we highlight the MVP performance from each State Championship Game from all 4 classes.    1A MVP   [player_tooltip player_id='2422347' first='Darrin' last='Laye Jr.'] Chicago Marshall 2028   Chicago Marshall leaned heavily on [player_tooltip player_id='2422347' first='Darrin' last='Laye Jr.'] in their 52–44 win over Goreville, and the senior delivered one of the more dominant individual performances of the day. Laye finished with 30 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 6 steals, shooting 11-17 from the field and 8-11 from the free throw line while playing 30 minutes. After a sluggish second quarter from Marshall offensively, Laye took control in the second half and willed his team to the comeback. Laye Jr. showed the traits of a high-level playmaker and momentum shifter. His blend of athleticism, transition scoring, defensive instincts, and toughness allowed him to completely take over the game late. When he plays with this level of aggression, he becomes extremely difficult to contain for the next couple of years.    2A MVP   [player_tooltip player_id='2734423' first='Jaquan' last='Brown'] Peoria Manual 2026    In the biggest moment of the season, Jaquan delivered a championship-level performance and was the driving force behind Manual's 60–55 victory. The 6'4 "forward finished with 23 points on an ultra-efficient 11-14 shooting, adding 2 assists, 1 rebound, and a steal while helping power Manual's offensive attack throughout the afternoon. His ability to finish in the paint was the defining part of his performance. Brown consistently found seams in the defense and converted once he got inside, using touch and body control to finish through traffic. He also showed confidence from the perimeter early, knocking down a first-quarter three-pointer to keep the defense honest.  Brown's combination of rim pressure, transition scoring, and efficiency made him the most impactful offensive player on the floor. When Manual needed a basket, Brown consistently delivered, and his performance was a major reason the Rams walked away with the 2A state title.   3A MVP   [player_tooltip player_id='1873523' first='Jamison' last='White'] East St. Louis 2026 (Penn State Commit)   White delivered one of the most complete performances of the state finals, impacting nearly every aspect of the game. The high-motor forward finished with 19 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 2 steals in 32 minutes.   White's biggest impact came on the glass. He pulled down 11 offensive rebounds, repeatedly extending possessions and creating second-chance opportunities that kept Deerfield's defense under constant pressure. His ability to stay active around the rim led to multiple tip attempts and put-backs. Offensively, White mixed physical finishes inside with timely scoring throughout the game. His ability to create offense with effort plays proved invaluable. Defensively, he anchored the interior with three blocks and provided help-side rim protection while also jumping passing lanes. His energy and activity level consistently swung momentum in East St. Louis' favor and a state championship for the Flyers.     4A MVP (x2)   [player_tooltip player_id='1552445' first='Charles' last='Barnes Jr'] Marist 2026   Barnes had an efficient offensive night, finishing with 13 points on 3-6 shooting while going a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. The wing played with composure and patience, consistently attacking gaps in Benet's defense and drawing contact. Barnes made his presence felt early by attacking the rim and later stepped up in the second half when Marist looked to maintain momentum. His ability to get downhill forced the Redwings into foul trouble situations and allowed Marist to generate offense even when shots weren't falling. Besides scoring, Barnes contributed defensively and in transition opportunities adding three rebounds, an assist, and two steals. His length and instincts allowed him to disrupt passing lanes and apply pressure defensively. Barnes' poise in a championship environment stood out. Rather than forcing difficult shots, he played within the flow of the offense and capitalized on opportunities when they presented themselves.   [player_tooltip player_id='1845350' first='Stephen' last='Brown'] Marist 2026    While Barnes provided scoring efficiency, Brown delivered the type of performance that often swings championship games. The versatile forward logged 38 minutes, anchoring the interior while finishing with 8 points and a team-high 8 rebounds. Brown's impact came largely on the glass. He pulled down three offensive rebounds, helping Marist create second-chance opportunities and maintain control of the possession battle. His activity around the rim forced Benet to consistently account for his presence. Defensively, Stephen used his length and mobility to contest shots and protect the paint, adding a block and a steal. His effort and versatility allowed Marist to switch defensively while still maintaining rim protection. Although his shot didn't always fall (3-10 FG), Brown stayed engaged and found ways to influence the game through rebounding, interior defense, and hustle plays these all led to Marist State Championship.
