Sandy’s Spiel Spring Showcase: Top Motors

Eastman set the tone for what a motor is supposed to look like. He flat-out outworked everyone. The 6-foot-5 forward brought relentless energy, dominating the paint with physicality and effort. He sprinted the floor, attacked the offensive glass, and converted second-chance opportunities with authority. Whether it was finishing putbacks, scoring on post-ups, or playing above the rim, Eastman imposed his will. Defensively, he protected the rim and blocked shots. His motor never dipped—possession after possession, he brought max effort. A true workhorse.     Walker is built like a tank and plays like one too. Pound-for-pound one of the strongest guards in the gym, he brings a physical edge to the point guard position. What stood out most was his defensive discipline—he sat down in a stance every possession and took pride in guarding the ball. Offensively, he used his strength to create space, getting to his pull-up jumper and facilitating downhill. A tough, physical guard who competes on every play.     Gore brings size and energy to the wing, consistently making plays with his activity level. He crashed the glass hard, earning second-chance opportunities, and moved well without the ball, cutting for easy baskets. While his shot has a slight hitch, he still showed the ability to knock down corner threes when set. Defensively, he embraced the challenge of guarding multiple positions, using his length and effort to impact the game. A glue guy with upside.     Samuel made his mark with defense and effort. The athletic wing sits down and guards with intensity, using lateral quickness and active hands to disrupt ball handlers. He rebounds aggressively on both ends and does the dirty work offensively, finding ways to score without needing plays called for him. While his offense is still developing, the tools are there. His motor and defensive mindset already make him valuable.     Mays is an explosive lefty who thrives in the open floor. When he's attacking the basket, he's at his best—using his athleticism to finish above the rim and through contact. He overwhelmed defenders on the offensive glass when they failed to box him out and even brought down an alley-oop off the backboard for a highlight finish. His end-to-end speed makes him dangerous in transition. As his jump shot continues to develop, his offensive game will become even more complete. Defensively, he showed strong on-ball ability with switchability.     Hawthorne's presence feels bigger than his listed size. He plays with strength, energy, and a willingness to do whatever is needed. He rebounds well for a guard, uses his body to finish through contact, and can score from both the mid-range and beyond the arc. He embraced physical play and even handled time in the frontcourt without hesitation. His work in the pick-and-roll stood out, and his stamina allowed him to maintain a high level of play throughout. A do-it-all guard.
