The Lansing-Area was loaded with upperclassmen talent this past season, especially with the 2026 class. However, the classes of 28/29 have a lot of talent in the region. I'm pretty bummed that I didn't get to see Roe play in-person this season, but I've watched plenty of Jackson NW on film. Before even knowing who-was-who, I couldn't believe the strength and skill of #5. Then, I looked at the roster and saw he was a freshman. Despite his age, DeDeaux already possesses niche skills such as displaying a willingness to pass as well as play off two-feet in the lane. With a 6'3, athletic frame and an intense competitive-edge, the sky is the limit for Roe DeDeaux.

Everyone knows about Torbert and Thomas for East Lansing and for good reason, but [player_tooltip player_id='2500721' first='Tyree' last='Anthony'] also played a major role in EL making it back to the Breslin. All season long, he hit big shots and made highlight plays. I was most impressed with his overall poise and composure in big games. Look for Tyree's stock to continue to rise as he's put himself in a nice position to have a monster summer.

Out of all the freshmen that received varsity minutes this season, very few played with the confidence that Layken Johnson did. In his first varsity game against Grand Ledge, injuries forced Johnson into a key role immediately. He didn't shy away from the opportunity, leading his team to an upset to start the season. From there, he continually put together solid all-around statistical performances without dominating the ball. His relentless effort on both ends of the floor earned him a spot on the CAAC-Red All-Conference team as a freshman.

Fritz was one of the better sub-varsity scorers in the Lansing-area this season. By the end of the season, he had earned himself varsity minutes. He is already a solid offensive player with a lethal mid-range jumper. On defense, he has nice upside with his current length and basketball IQ. After an offseason of development, Fritz could be one of the best players in the CAAC next season.

Nobody gave the eventual Division II state champs Freeland more of a fight than Portland did in the Regional Semifinals at Owosso. That effort was led by a breakout performance from Simon. Oftentimes being the only non-senior on the court, Carson played big minutes and made an even bigger impact. His three 2nd quarter 3s and defensive hustle kept the Raiders in the game despite foul trouble. All year Simon was a spark plug on a senior-heavy district champion team. It will be interesting to see how Simon's game develops in the offseason before becoming the face of Portland Raider basketball.
