FHSAA Final 4 Class 4A Recap

Suncoast cruised to the Class 4A state championship in Jacksonville, earning convincing wins over Boca Ciega in the semifinals and Atlantic in the title game. Head coach Jason Powell guided the Chargers to their first state championship since 1990, capping off an impressive postseason run. Here is a look at some of the top performers from the Class 4A Final Four.    In a balanced scoring attack for the Chargers, Horton scored in double figures in both games during Suncoast's championship run. The 6'3" wing brings a high basketball IQ and above-average athleticism to the floor, allowing him to impact the game in multiple ways. Horton is at his best attacking downhill, where he can use his strength and quickness to get to the rim and finish through contact. With his size, athletic ability, and feel for the game, Horton is the type of prospect a college program will look to add this spring.     McKelton is another quick, attacking guard who put together a strong weekend in Jacksonville for Suncoast. The unsigned senior averaged 10 points per game while also dishing out six assists in each contest, consistently creating opportunities for his teammates. He is difficult for defenders to keep out of the paint, using his quickness and ball-handling ability to break down the defense. Once inside, McKelton shows creativity and touch as a finisher around the rim, making him an effective playmaker and offensive catalyst.     A third senior member of the Chargers' backcourt, Harris is a very athletic and quick lead guard who made a strong impact in the title game with 18 points. He brings speed and explosiveness to the position, allowing him to pressure defenses and create scoring opportunities. Harris is also extremely active on the defensive end, using his quickness and energy to disrupt opposing guards. As another key member of Suncoast's senior class, Harris has the athleticism and competitiveness to find a home at the collegiate level.     The highly skilled guard finished with 16 points in a semifinal loss to Atlantic and showcased the offensive talent that makes him a difficult matchup. Jackson is very comfortable with the basketball in his hands, demonstrating strong ball-handling ability and control of the offense. He is a high-level shot maker who can score from the perimeter or off the dribble. Jackson also changes speeds effectively, allowing him to keep defenders off balance and create scoring opportunities for himself.     Atlantic's leading scorer on the season, the strong, attacking guard continued to produce in Jacksonville, averaging over 15 points per game during the Final Four. He is capable of impacting the game as both a scorer and distributor, using his strength and aggressiveness to put pressure on opposing defenses. The senior was particularly effective getting downhill and drawing contact, frequently earning trips to the free throw line. As an unsigned senior with proven production and toughness in the backcourt, he is a prospect college programs should take a close look at.     Perhaps the top long-term prospect in the 4A Final Four, Martin was highly productive in Jacksonville, averaging 16 points and over 10 rebounds across the two games. The junior brings good strength and touch around the basket, allowing him to score effectively in the paint. However, his offensive game is not limited to the interior, as he also showed the ability to step out and knock down open shots from beyond the arc. Martin's versatility extends to the defensive end as well, where his size and mobility allow him to impact multiple areas of the floor.
