Everyone wants to talk about scorers and stars in today's game, but there are still plenty of players out there that make their teammates better with their passing ability. Here's a look at some of the best underrated playmakers in the Hampton Roads area.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588126' first='Joshua' last='Rice'] | 6'1” PG | Hampton 2026

Rice has been the catalyst for one of the top teams in the Hampton Roads area, as he's been the floor general for a Crabbers team that has a real chance of heading to VCU this season. The 6'1” lead guard is one of the best in the area as he is strong and physical when he gets to the paint to stay on balance to make good passes, he makes great reads in ball screens and when he gets out in transition, and he can fill it up too making him a tough player to game plan for at any time.

Makhi Cofield | 5'11” PG | Portsmouth Christian 2026

Cofield is having an outstanding senior season for a resurgent PC team, and he's been one of best players in all of the 757. A dual threat guard that is averaging 15,8 points and 5.6 assists per game he's been controlling the game with his pace and getting wherever he wants on the floor, he's great pushing it in transition and forcing defenders to commit before leaving it for his teammates to get easy buckets, and he lives in the paint as someone who can break down defenders and find open teammates.

Kordell London | 6'1” PG | Lafayette 2026

London has been one of the top two way guards in the 757, as he's putting up a crazy stat line of 15 points, 6.3 assists and 5.1 steals per game to lead a Lafayette team that is 17-4 on the season into the playoffs. The lefty lead guard is dynamite in the pick-and-roll where he not only reads screens well but reads the rotations well too, he's a pick pocket defensively that always looks up after getting a steal, and the fact that he can make shots off the bounce commands attention and allows him to draw help and find open shooters or bigs on dump offs.

Shamar McCray | 5'9” PG | Warhill 2027

McCray has been the leader for a Warhill team that has been very good this year, finishing the season at 14-5 and looking to make a run in the playoffs, with his presence as a floor general being a big part of it. The 5'9” lead guard has done a great job pushing the tempo and finding teammates in transition, he's been great in ball screens to drag it out or get in the paint to put pressure on the defense, he's set the tone defensively making plays on that side of the ball, and he's been an efficient scorer as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2916403' first='Eziah' last='Goodson'] | 6'1” PG | Princess Anne 2028

Goodson is one of the best young guards in all of Hampton Roads, and is having a huge season for a Princess Anne team that is a dark horse candidate this March. The 6'1” lead guard is as shifty as they come with the ability to break down defenders in isolation and draw help to find open teammates, he's got great speed in transition and is great at making defenders commit and unselfish enough to give it up for easy shots, and he can flat out score it in bunches on top of that.

[player_tooltip player_id='2918891' first='Legend' last='Bunch'] | 6'2” PG | Norfolk Collegiate 2028

Bunch is a bit of a throwback type of guard, as he can control the entire game with his pace and ability to get where he wants, and he has a deadly combination of shot making and playmaking that will leave defenses baffled. The 6'2” guard can get wherever he wants whether it's using the ball screen or breaking down defenders off the bounce to create an advantage, he sees rotations early and can drop pinpoint passes to open teammates, he plays very under control seeing traps and doubles and finding open men for easy shots, and he can make shots from all three levels which makes him demand the attention of the defense over their own assignment.
