The Case for the Gaels:

With a win four-point win over Clear Lake, one of the top teams in 3A, in February and in the middle of a ten-game winning streak, St. Edmond is one of the more dangerous teams in 1A at this point in the season. A squad that can put the clamps on and win a game by scoring fewer than 50 points but also put up 80 points any given night, the Gaels have won in a variety of ways this season, making the senior-laden squad appear ready for a run to the title game in Iowa's smallest class.

Their star and the all-time scoring leader at St. Eds, [player_tooltip player_id='1907683' first='Hunter' last='Horn'] is a 6-foot-5 hooper that ranks second in 1A and fifth in all classes in scoring, putting up 26.3 points per game, while adding nine rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest, to boot. A volume shooter that's taken over 400 shots this season and ranks sixth in all classes in shots per game, Horn makes 10.7 of those shots on average, making his shooting percentage an outstanding 57.3%. He also gets to the line on a regular basis, as he's made 95-of-135 (70.4%) free throws this season boosting his scoring numbers.

Up next is Buena Vista commit and 6-foot-2 guard, [player_tooltip player_id='2517050' first='Carson' last='Bargfrede'] who serves as the team's three-point specialist. The only Gael that has taken more than 100 three-point shots this season, Bargrede has made 51-of-135 (37.8%). He adds 3.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2887801' first='Jakob' last='Koopman'], though he doesn't score in double figures, is up there in importance with the rest of the senior crew, as the team's leader in steals, second leading rebounder and an efficient scorer, as he puts up 9.4 points per contest while shooting 57.6% from the floor and adds 8.5 rebounds and three steals per game. A "dirty work" player that serves as a captain and glue guy for the Gaels, Koopman will be critical in their title hopes come March.

Loaded with seniors that can score an impact the game in all the little ways needed to win a championship, St. Edmond may be on track to capture the 1A title this season.
