Horizon storms back in 2nd half to beat ACP

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On Monday Jan 26th I watched the match-up of 5A <strong>Horizon Huskies</strong> hosting the 5A <strong>Arizona College Prep Knights</strong>. Horizon will be in the 5A playoffs but ACP needs to do more down the stretch to get in.  </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I checked out the Varsity game.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:heading --> <h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Here were the standouts on the night&nbsp;</strong></h2> <!-- /wp:heading --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>All the stats are unofficial.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Varsity Game (56-46 Horizon won)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1950116' first='Ethan' last='Hayes'] Horizon&nbsp;(Pictured)</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A bigger wing forward started slowly in the first half but was outstanding in the second half. He scored it every way with rip thrus to the basket, threes off the catch, put backs off the glass and his sweet spot, the mid-range jumper off the dribble. He finished with a game high 18 points in their win.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2784885' first='Owen' last='Brackmann'] Horizon&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A face-up forward who can play some of the three or four for the Huskies. His shot is polishing up with threes off the catch with a nice stroke, he has some bounce to rebound and score with offensive rebound put backs and he will euro step his way to finish off tough shots in the lane. He scored 15 points.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2414049' first='Ryan' last='Milner'] Horizon</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A scoring point guard has some nice passes thru the defense with good court vision. He will score with mid-range jumpers, blow by layups with a nice burst and he made a clutch layup down the stretch to essentially seal the deal. He scored 10 points with a few assists.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2784848' first='Parker' last='Burke'] Horizon&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A decent sized power forward does most of his work around the basket. He is fairly effective with good hands and footwork near the hoop. He smartly cuts off the ball and will go up quickly. He rebounds well using his nice frame and brings some physicality. He scored 8 points with 5+ rebounds.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2444019' first='Gavin' last='Henss'] Horizon&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A strong point guard was playing the role of the pure point guard in this contest with up the court ropes for assists, drive and kicks and he will suck in the defense and make a play. He uses his strong frame to rebound the ball and defend. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1875407' first='Zach' last='Cutler'] AZ College Prep&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A wing forward with skill and poise. He will score it with fall aways from mid-range, hit the three off the catch or pull and boxes out like you should to rebound. He is one of their taller players and controls the glass for them. He finished with 12 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3266495' first='Amane' last='Breedlove'] AZ College Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A live bodied wing forward plays the game with a huge motor. He is mostly a downhill type of player with long arms and some speed to burn to the basket. He scores it with floaters and runners. He will rebound, defend multiple positions and even block shots. He finished with 11 points.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3444222' first='James' last='Thompson'] AZ College Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A quick scoring point guard who is undersized but has some speed. He will burst to the basket and he can spin off of his defender. He will shoot the three off the catch or pull and has a knack for scoring the ball. He scored 7 points.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2855911' first='Arash' last='Kharto'] AZ College Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A quick freshman with a very tight handle with either hand. He has a super quick burst to get to the basket and he can get a step on his initial defender. He is good in transition and has quick hands and feet to rip some pockets. He scored 6 points.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='3444365' first='Cruz' last='Monreal'] AZ College Prep</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A scoring guard who can defend. The lefty can hit the three off the catch with a nice looking shooting stroke. He will pull-up from mid-range and he is quick on the ball defensively. He also rebounds well in his area and scored 5 points. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='2108697' first='Xavier' last='Collier'] AZ College Prep&nbsp;</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>A high motored forward is undersized but he plays way bigger then his size suggests. He will score with tough layups around the basket and scores with offensive rebound put backs. He is a sneaky good passer and a top notch rebounder.&nbsp;</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
