made the announcement that he's decided on college and he's going to be hooping it up at Linfield. For the smart 6-foot guard, it all came down to things being the right fit - basketball of course, but also with what the school and relationships within the program.
"The coaches are great - they took my family to lunch and I got to meet the entire team," Durbin said. "All the kids are incredible people and kids I could see myself playing with and being friends with. The academics at the school are also great. They are a top academic school in Oregon, so I will be set up for my future after college."
Durbin was also looking at Pacific, Lewis & Clark, and Southern Oregon before deciding on Linfield. He was also considering not playing basketball in college and simply being a student assistant at Oregon State or Nebraska, but felt that the opportunity to play at Linfield was a good fit - and he is ready to do what it takes to prepare himself.
"I hoping to see myself in a similar role as high school - a true point guard and floor general," Durbin said. "I have never cared about how many points I've scored, and I hope my unselfishness and pass first mindset is something the team notices about me. Getting ready for college I need to continue getting stronger and more explosive, while also working on finishing at the rim through contact more consistently."
With his recruitment over, Durbin now turns his eyes towards the rest of his senior year - one he feels the Lakers can achieve their goals.
"The rest of the season I just want to continue what I have been doing, taking care of the ball and getting my teammates involved - none of this is possible without them and I want to keep rewarding them for that," Durbin said. "As for the playoff, we set a goal at the beginning of the year to make it to the Chiles Center. There is still work to be done to get there, but that would be our team goal."
Our congratulations go out to Durbin and his family on his decision.
