SAN DIEGO — Mission Bay High head coach Marshawn Cherry organized and hosted his 8th annual Battle at the Bay event which showcased many of San Diego's top teams and prospects. The seven-game event had multiple matchups of Top 10 teams in the region and we were in attendance for every game. Below we break down 7 wings and forwards who caught our eye.

Charlie Barajas | 2026 | Cathedral Catholic

Barajas impressed with his combination of transition mobility, athleticism and a versatile offensive skill-set. The 6-foot-6 forward was an active rim-runner and lane-filler whose vertical athleticism allowed him to finish above the rim on multiple occasions, including a lob dunk that ignited the crowd and his team. Barajas flashed some perimeter skill with a catch-and-shoot three-point shot and the ability to face-up and drive by his defender. He scored 14 points to help Cathedral Catholic to a 54-51 win over Carlsbad.

Chayse Miles | 2027 | Steele Canyon

According to Miles' coach, Aaron Douglas, the 6-foot-5 wing/forward is still in the beginning stages of his development which means the 2027 prospect will be an intriguing follow over the next season-and-a-half. Miles has some offensive versatility working in his favor as he can score on perimeter jumpers and face-up drives and finishes at the rim. Miles' combination of size, length and vertical athleticism also allowed him to rebound the offensive and defensive glass at a high clip. He finished with 18 points and nine rebounds in a one-point win over Montgomery.

[player_tooltip player_id='2131790' first='Clayton' last='Grebing'] | 2026 | Mission Bay

Grebing's most valuable tool at the next level is his ability to stretch the floor to the three-point line but he's also showing progress with his interior scoring ability. The 6-foot-8 forward scored 15 points in a win over Torrey Pines with some back-to-the-basket moves to step through layups and soft-touched jump hooks. Grebing is committed to local D2 power Point Loma.

Dylan Sims | 2027 | Carlsbad

Sims doubles as linebacker on the Lancers' highly-rated football team - where he was second on the team in total tackles - and his basketball skill-set is just as physical as he is on the gridiron. Listed at 6-foot, 210-pounds, the junior wing is like a bowling ball when he drives through the lane as he powers through any defender in his way and finishes around the rim with touch. Sims' physicality is used well by the Carlsbad coaching staff as they clear out lanes for him to get downhill to his right hand. He scored 18 points in a loss to Cathedral Catholic.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956617' first='Isaiah' last='Owens'] | 2026 | Victory Christian

Owens might be a wing with guard height but it doesn't take away from the fact that he was one of the best slashers and finishers that we saw in this event. The 6-foot-2 senior was hyper active in transition and half-court offense with his lane filling and cutting into open space which was complemented by his crafty finishing ability. Owens finished with a game-high 17 points in a win over San Marcos

JuJu Lebel | 2026 | Christian

Lebel can always be counted on to play with elite energy, toughness and physicality. The 6-foot-4 wing gets to the rim with sheer determination and the ability to bully his way through smaller or bigger defenders and score at the rim. Lebel is a tough player to keep in front when he gets downhill and he's savvy about using his footwork and shot-fakes to get defenders out of position and get angles to score in the paint. He finished with a game-high 24 points in a two-point win over Mira Mesa.

[player_tooltip player_id='2916726' first='Tyler' last='Humphrey'] | 2027 | Torrey Pines

Humphrey has elevated his recruiting stock over the last six months and it has to do with his ability to impact the game in a variety of ways. The 6-foot-6 forward has a smooth three-point shooting stroke, can get into a balanced mid-range pull-up and flashed an improved pop of athleticism in this event with an impressive baseline dunk. Humphrey scored 13 points in the loss to Mission Bay, which is right on his averaged of 12.9 points per game.
