Accounting for nearly half of his team's offense, his poise, shot-making, and leadership powered the upset and clearly separated him as the most impactful player on the floor with season averages of 20.4 points per game while shooting over 61% from the field and 56% from three.

Payton has been on an impressive four-game tear, delivering consistently dominant performances from late December through early January. Over that stretch, he averaged 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3 steals per game while impacting every facet of the game. His run included near triple-double production in a tournament win, a hyper-efficient 32-point outing with 10 made field goals and 12 free throws, a 30-point blowout performance highlighted by five steals, and a strong 27-point, 11-rebound effort despite a narrow loss.

In a Jan. 9 matchup against BTW, he powered his team with 25 points and 17 rebounds, adding a steal and a block while shooting an outstanding 9-of-13 from the field in 41 minutes. Earlier in the week on Jan. 6 versus Huntington, he was just as steady, posting 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals, shooting 50 percent from the floor and a perfect 8-for-8 at the free-throw line with zero turnovers in 33 minutes. Across both games, he totaled 44 points, 25 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 block while shooting roughly 61 percent from the field and nearly 79 percent from the line.
