Mike’s Saturday Afternoon Notebook: Perimeter Scorers

Teams ranged from the 2A, 3A, and 4A classes. In this breakdown, we will look more in depth at the shooting guards I had the chance of watching which includes one showing from Warrensburg Latham's Nathan Southern who finished with 9 3's. Tallied him for 3 3's all from corners at an efficient rate. Jump shot is pure with solid mechanics. Works well along side other skilled guard to space away from D on drives and be ready for shooting opportunities. Handles the ball as well when necessary. Was at an efficient marker today. Splashed in 4 from both sides of the ball showing comfortability from either wing. Hit a big one to get within 5 at the end of 4^th. Walked into a 3 pointer and then came off a ball screen to knock another one down off the dribble. Smooth release. Unfortunately got injured on a foul going up midway through 2^nd quarter and didn't come back. Utilizes wing span to advantage. Cuts into open areas off the ball effectively. Curl in the paint for retrieval and lay in and a backside baseline cut for finish. Got defender to rise at top of key then converted in traffic. Knows where to get to spots on the floor. Paced team high with 12. Broke the school's single game 3 point scoring record hitting 9 3's. Mostly coming off staggers from the base in ½ court sets or blob actions. Knows how to flare as well and find open space. My report shows only missing 2 3's total on the night. He also hit another one but there was a foul called on the screen so bucket didn't count. 2 guard with length got the job done today for the Cardinals. Finished with game high 28.
