LA VERNE — The ninth annual Classic at Damien is one of the nation's premier post-holiday high school basketball tournaments. The 2025 edition features 144 teams from five states spread across nine divisions and includes many of the country's top prospects. We were in attendance for the three of the four days at Damien High and below are the best guards we watched among Gold Division participants.

[player_tooltip player_id='2436285' first='Carter' last='Fulton'] | 2027 | Rolling Hills Prep

Fulton's addition to the Rolling Hills Prep roster added a major punch of offense at the guard position that the Huskies were missing prior to him becoming eligible on Dec. 26. The 6-foot combo guard has dynamic speed, quickness and changes of pace and direction that allow him to break defenders down off the dribble and get into his crafty finishing package around the rim. The junior transfer from Norte Vista scores in bunches and had 27 points in RHP's opening round win over California High, added 13 points and seven assists in a quarterfinal win over Mesa (AZ) and had 23 in a loss to Folsom in the Gold Division championship game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2131792' first='Deuce' last='Newt'] | 2026 | Loyola

Newt is one of Southern California's best three-point shooters but he showed during Gold Division action that when his three is not falling eh can still score at a high level. The 5-foot-10 combo guard is a player opposing defenses run off the three-point line at all costs and Newt took advantage of that by driving into the lane where he finished with a pull-up jumper or floater. The senior was playing his first regular season games for the Cubs after sitting out the first month-plus of the season due to CIF transfer rules and his impact was immediately felt on the offensive end as he scored 24 points in a first round win over Bakersfield Christian

[player_tooltip player_id='2059712' first='Jack' last='Shull'] | 2026 | Folsom

Shull is a highly confident and aggressive attacker of the basket in transition and half-court offense. The 6-foot-3 guard used quick and decisive decisions and moves to drive by defenders and get into a smooth mid-range pull-up or all the way to the rim where he absorbed and finished through contact. Where Shull really shows his value is in his ability to stuff the stat sheet as evidenced in the Gold Division championship game where he had 12 points, four assists, four rebounds and three steals. His best scoring performance came in a quarterfinal win over [player_tooltip player_id='2763310' first='Rancho' last='Christian'] where he had 20 points on 8-for-11 from the field.

[player_tooltip player_id='2137372' first='Josiah' last='Johnson'] | 2026 | Mayfair

Johnson is one of the best available prospects remaining on recruiting boards out west and had a variety of coaches from different Division 1 levels watching him over the weekend. The physical, athletic and explosive 6-foot-4 guard is one of the best finishers in the region thanks to his combination of physical and athletic tools and his belief that no one can stop him when he has a full head of steam to the rim - and he's usually right about that. Johnson has shown growing confidence in his mid-range and three-point jumpers over the last few months. The unsigned senior had 27 points and 17 points and six assists in the two games we were able to see of his.

[player_tooltip player_id='1707490' first='Joven' last='Dulay'] | 2026 | Folsom

The Idaho State-commit was named MVP of the Gold Division after his three-point shooting ability led the Bulldogs to the Division Championship. Dulay is one of the state's best perimeter scorers as his combination of off-catch, off-bounce and off-movement shooting consistency make him a really tough cover for opposing defenses. The 6-foot-5 senior used his strong base to shoot a balanced three-point and mid-range jumper and knocked down four three's in the quarterfinals, scored 21 points with six three's in the semifinals and hit three more triples in the championship game.

[player_tooltip player_id='2484218' first='Parks' last='Weaver'] | 2028 | Folsom

Weaver pulls all the right strings as the primary ball handler for the Bulldogs and perhaps his best trait at the point guard spot is his ability to manage the game as a distributor and scorer based on what his team needs. The 6-foot-3 sophomore has a tight handle on the ball, is a shifty mover that allows him to get paint touches and is wise beyond his years with his feel and passing and has at-rim and three-point scoring ability. Weaver had 16 points, six rebounds and three assists in the championship win, 17 points and six assists in the semifinals and 19 points in the quarterfinals.

[player_tooltip player_id='3072422' first='Sajjin' last='Sidhu'] | 2026 | San Joaquin Memorial

Sidhu was among the best shooters in this event regardless of division. The 6-foot-4 shooting guard had 23 points, including 6-for-10 from three-point range and 14 points on 4-for-9 from three in his first two games of the tournament. Sidhu is the type of shooter that you highlight in a scouting report as a guy you want to run off the line and give no time and space to.

[player_tooltip player_id='1956467' first='Timmy' last='Anderson'] | 2026 | Pasadena

Anderson had a litter of Division II coaches in the stands following his every move and his combination of scoring ability and playmaking feel made it clear why he's being targeted by west coast schools at that level. The 5-foot-10 senior operates with a smooth pace and uses his strong frame to get defenders on his hip when attacking and finishing at the rim or using that contact to get to the free throw line where he connects at a high rate. Anderson is also a consistent off-dribble and off-catch shooter who scored 19 points in an opening round loss to Liberty, had 21 in a consolation loss to San Joaquin Memorial
