Game Recap

The start of the game was the best moment for Northeast Dubois as they came out and their sharpshooting senior guard Zachary Betz knocked down his first three-point attempt, everything was downhill from there as Wood Memorial started 8-11 from the field and led 22-5 after the first quarter. The ball was moving well for the Trojans. Got penetration in the lane and player movement for open shots that they were able to convert on. A big factor in the first half was how well Wood Memorial was connected as a team defensively. The Trojans forced seven Northeast Dubois turnovers in the first half and held the Jeeps to 2-18 shooting leading 34-6 at the half. Franklin College Commit [player_tooltip player_id='2625553' first='Houston' last='Schoonover'] led the way for the Trojans knocking down three 3's in the half for 12 points. Seniors [player_tooltip player_id='2997398' first='Chad' last='E. Sullivan'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2625556' first='Parker' last='Conder'] had productive first halves as well. Sullivan, an All-Blue Chip Conference performer last season, played a a balanced first half finishing with 8 points and 5 assists. Conder, a 6'5” Senior All-Conference performer last season, also finished with 8 points to go along with 5 rebounds.

Despite starting better offensively and outscoring Wood Memorial 10-9 in the third quarter, Wood Memorial continued their dominant defensive performance handing Northeast Dubois their first Blue Chip Conference loss by a score of 54-21. Northeast Dubois shot just 8-42 from the field with 10 turnovers for the game. Senior Guard Keyton Jones led the Jeeps with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals

Wood Memorial had a terrific night from their starting five. 5'11” Senior Guard [player_tooltip player_id='2997398' first='Chad' last='E. Sullivan'] led three Trojans in double figures with his most complete game I've seen out of him this season with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Franklin College Commit 6'2” G [player_tooltip player_id='2625553' first='Houston' last='Schoonover'] followed with 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists. 6'5” Senior Forward [player_tooltip player_id='2625556' first='Parker' last='Conder'] round out the double digit scorers with 10 points and 9 rebounds. 5'11” Senior Guard Talan Strickland and 6'2” Sophomore Guard Joe Jarboe are the unsung heroes of this Wood Memorial team. Two role players that compete on both ends. Strickland finished with a full stat line of 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists while Jarboe didn't score, but impacted the game on both ends finishing with 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

This was my fourth game seeing the senior point guard for Wood Memorial and he has gotten better and better each game out. Early in the year I thought he was forcing the issue leading to some turnover issues. I thought he was in complete control of the offense and letting the game come to in. His ability to get to his spot and the gravity that he has on the floor combined with his court vision made him dangerous tonight when his teammates were shooting as well as they did tonight. He's a crafty finisher in the lane that plays stronger than he is and always seems to be on balance even when playing through contact.
