Andrew James Lawson Foundation Invitational Preview: MIAA Games

On the boys side, 3 prep school and 2 MIAA games will be played. The senior guard recently scored his thousandth point, and he's poised to be the leader of a team that should make a relatively deep playoff run this season. Despite being only 6-foot-1, the lefty gets above the rim for finishes and does an excellent job taking contact in the air. He can also make shots from long range off of both the catch and the dribble, and I've been impressed with the strides he has made this season in terms of cutting and moving without the ball in his hands. The senior guard transferred in to Beverly this season, and he has brought excellent rebounding, passing, and downhill attacking to the squad. He has really solid strength on drives to the rim, and that allows him to keep his line and take contact very well. The 6-foot-1 guard is bouncy and has super long arms, so he flies above the rim for dunks and is an excellent offensive rebounder and rim protector for his size. Offensively, the senior is able to get to wherever he wants on the court with his quick dribble, and he has a really consistent pull-up jumper from the mid range. He's always engaged on both ends and brings an effort level that's quite high at all times. He does a good job defending his position with his lateral quickness and active hands, and he's a good finisher at the rim as a result of his athleticism and length. He's calm, cool and collected no matter what's happening on the court and he plays the game with a very high basketball IQ. Offensively, he's always in the right spot and has good footwork and feel in the paint, but he can also knock down shots from the perimeter and mis range. Defensively, he provides some rim protection with his size and length. The senior is an all-time energy guy who competes every possession on the defensive end and rebounds the ball very well for his size. Offensively, he's a bit raw in terms of his skills, but he's a really solid athlete and has no regard for his body on drives to the rim, which he uses to his advantage. The 6-foot-1 lefty is never denied on takes to the rim and has really nice touch on finishes over the trees. He also does a good job in the triple threat and can fly above the rim when he needs to. I'm not sure what his outside shot looks like, but I'm sure he has solid mechanics given how the rest of his game looks.
