A Week in Review | New Faces

Holiday Tournaments have come and gone and the second semester has started. Teams are getting back to their normal routines and regular season schedules. I was able to get out to three games this week and was able to stream one other game that had memorable performances from new players that haven't been talked about. Here are seven new faces that stood out this week:    The multi-sport athlete out of Southridge is finding his groove on the hardwood. Athletic 6'3” Shooting Guard that impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Physical and versatile defender that guards multiple positions and does a good job playing with active hands and rebounds his position. Offensively he's a good movement shooter that reads screens well to get himself open. Confident scorer that doesn't force the issue. Has deep range on his three-point with good elevation staying on balance.     The mid-year enrollee back to Fishers gives Fishers just another versatile weapon to help keep the engine rolling. Hillsman is a 6'7” Wing that impacts the game on both ends of the floor. Long and athletic prospect that plays with a high motor. Has the ability to create off the dribble and is explosive off the floor playing above the rim. Has a smooth shot on his jump shot that stretches out past the three-point line.     Shifty Senior Guard out of Evansville Mater Dei that plays with loads of confidence. He does a good job balancing his scoring opportunities with getting his teammates open looks. He has a tight handle that allows him to get to his spot where he can finish around the basket with either hand, stop and pop over and rise over defenders in the midrange while also being a deadly three-point shooter off the catch or dribble.     Super active defensive minded guard that continues to improve his offensive game every time I see him. Confident three-point shooter off the catch. Showed the ability to drive it and sees the floor really well creating open looks for others. Long wingspan with active hands and a knack for knowing where the ball is going to be on the defensive end.     Athletic 6'5” Junior Forward is still developing as an offensive threat, but makes his presence felt on the defensive end with his length, size, and athleticism. Really good rim protector that does a good job staying vertical and contesting shots without fouling. He's mobile on the defensive end with the ability to switch off onto perimeter players and contain them. Offensively, he's a true post player that is a really good pick and roll threat. Comfortable catching on the low block and shooting a jump hook over his left shoulder. Good rebounder that covers a lot of area     The high scorer of the week with 32 points in a loss to Southridge on Friday night, [player_tooltip player_id='3343955' first='Dax' last='Kramer'] is a confident scorer that can get going in a hurry. He's never met a shot he didn't like. He's an aggressive right hand driver that once he gets two feet in the paint he's looking to score. Good shooter for range off the catch. Has a bit of a low release, but gets it off. He's an aggressive defender in passing lanes and on the ball. He does a good job moving his feet and plays with active hands.     My second time seeing [player_tooltip player_id='3343973' first='Parker' last='Steckler'] and he's an athletic forward that plays with an extremely high motor. Active in both ends of the floor around the rim. He was able to rebound out of his area and was an excellent cutter off the ball and finished around the basket in traffic. Defensively he's a physical presence that is mobile. He's able to protect the rim on drives while also being able to use his length and athleticism to switch onto ball handlers in pick and roll situations.
