Cape defended home turf against Smyrna Eagles who opened their season on the road. The contest ended with the home team winning by double figures, 71-58. Here's a recap via a few Standouts:

[player_tooltip player_id='2371044' first='Geordan' last='Downing'] | 6'1 G 2027 Cape Henlopen

After being down in the first quarter, Downing stepped up defensively and helped others get going to give the Vikings a lead they wouldn't relinquish. His time to shine as a scorer came in the second half. He did a little of everything – attack off the catch for a floater, spot up for a three, hit a tough fadeaway middy. So Downing finished the contest with 11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

[player_tooltip player_id='2698355' first='Stephen' last='Sivels'] | 5'6 G 2027 Cape Henlopen

With the ball on a string, Sivels got two feet in the paint on almost every possession. Fastbreaks, off closeouts, one-on-one: he got where he wanted and that was usually to the baja. But he didn't just drive to score. Sivels regularly drove and dropped the ball inside without wrap-around passes or kicked it out for three. He got to the charity stripe as well, where he went 8-for-12. His 23 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists & steals kept the Eagles at bay.

[player_tooltip player_id='2364685' first='Jameson' last='Tingle'] | 6'4 G/W 2027 Cape Henlopen

Tingle wrecked the Eagles offense with his rim protection and overall toughness. Even when he wasn't punching people's shots, which he did, he was filling the gap or cutting drivers off, then walling up without fouling. Sullivan also simply ripped the ball away from someone who drove towards him. Offensively, he ran off 16 points in the second quarter by physically dominating the court. Besides a three and a two-point jumper he hit, Tingle out-hustled everyone in transition, mixed his craft as a handler with strength to get to the rim, and made a difference on the glass. And for that, he finished with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals & 3 blocks

[player_tooltip player_id='2375189' first='Quamere' last='Redic'] | 6'4 F 2026 Smyrna

Redic's performance was simple yet effective: he controlled the boards and made high-percentage shots around the basket. He grabbed several offensive rebounds to extend possessions and/or set himself up to score. His defensive rebounding limited the Vikings some too. And whether a teammate dumped the ball down to him on the block or he flashed to open space, Redic found angles to score. He racked up a double-double, 12 points and 12 boards.

[player_tooltip player_id='2375188' first='Logan' last='Shaw'] | 6'4 W 2026 Smyrna

Shaw led the Eagles offensively, but he didn't do it with flash; he did it with pristine fundamentals. The skilled wing continuously finished off of two feet. He would use smooth straight-line drives and his shoulders to get into the lane. Then he'd jump-stop and either initiate contact I'm the air or evade shot-blockers before laying the ball up. Shaw hit a pull-up two and a catch-and-shoot three as well, tallying 21 points 7 rebounds 4 assists & 1 steal.
