New York Players to Watch - Part 1

There are many players across New York performing at a high level this season, and this is far from the final installment of the player watch list. We are still in the early stages of the season, and I expect prospects to continue separating themselves as the year progresses.    He has the ability to break down defenders with either hand. He handles ball pressure well and consistently plays under control. His playmaking creates scoring opportunities for teammates, and his court awareness, instincts, and vision have been impressive. He has a fluid shooting release from beyond the arc, which is effective for him, and he uses his tight dribble control to create his own scoring opportunities.     He's a reliable three‑point shooter with deep range, the lefty pushes the pace well and finishes while maintaining control of the tempo. He consistently penetrates zones, identifies gaps, and executes runners and floaters with confidence. He has also shown the ability to ignite transition offense immediately after defensive stops. His athleticism, strength, and decision making continue to stand out, and as a sophomore, he is already trending upward. I look forward to seeing how his game develops as he gains more experience. Additionally. he stated “I play for the name on the front, knowing the back will take care of itself” further showcasing his character.     An anonymous source shared, “He isn't only a good player but a good student and person.” He continues to dominate on both ends of the floor, using his strength and physicality to impact games. His versatility keeps defenses honest, whether he's getting downhill to finish through traffic or stepping out to score from the perimeter. His blend of power and skill allows him to shoot confidently and put the ball on the floor, making him a consistent matchup problem.     He is physically strong, and his performance against LuHi put him on a different stage than many of his counterparts. He knocks down corner threes off the catch and shows unselfishness by making the extra pass to set up open looks for teammates. He has the ability to turn the corner and finish with either hand, and he continues to show confidence as a spot‑up shooter.     The energetic prospect plays with a level of enthusiasm that ignites his team. He gets downhill effectively and finishes over length, impacting the game on both ends of the floor. In addition to his ability to penetrate, he has proven to be a reliable shooter. He moves well off the ball, finds openings within the defense, and shows the strength and balance to finish through contact.     He stays patient under pressure and consistently makes the right play. His off‑ball movement is effective, allowing him to slip into scoring opportunities from the post He can knock down the three when attacking closeouts and shows the ability to score from all three levels, though he looks especially comfortable and confident from beyond the arc.     Nermin is a confident shooter who needs very little space to get his shot off. He has a fluid release, and his catch‑and‑shoot and pull‑up mechanics look identical, which helps open up his driving ability. His basketball instincts are impressive, and he consistently makes the right play within the flow of the game.
