I had a chance to stop by the campus of Lee College this week and scout at their annual Lee Classic tournament for high school teams. Bracket play began yesterday, and teams were fighting hard to try and advance to the championship with physical and high IQ play on both sides of the court. The tournament was off to a hot start on Monday, and I got to see many of the first matchups of the event take place. Here are some standouts who impressed me with their on-court play!

Korben "KJ" Goodwin was one of the more physically dominant players in this event and he made this known in a first round win over La Porte on Monday. He essentially controlled the paint the entirety of the game and came away with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds to advance the Mustangs to the second round of bracket play. The defense can't sleep on KJ's jumper either as he is especially good at shooting in the midrange and has the ability to spot up from almost anywhere on the court. As only a 2028 prospect, Korben already has a well-developed skillset and his ceiling is only going to continue to grow from here.

[player_tooltip player_id='2557317' first='Aaron' last='Dixon'] was the best combo guard I was able to scout in the morning slate of games, and he helped Booker T take down Pasadena Memorial in the 10:00 matchup of the Platinum Division. He shows great confidence in his shot off the dribble, and this allowed him to capitalize from three-point range, hitting about 3-4 threes over the course of the game and he also is a great playmaker in terms of creating for teammates. He makes sure all his team on the court stays involved and he is never selfish with the basketball in crunch time. His teammates trust him to take tough shots in the clutch, and he often comes through when Washington needs someone to turn to. Dixon has become one of my more slept on unsigned 2026 prospects this season in Houston.

Grant Maher was a catalyst for Kingwood on both ends and came away with a massive double-double in a blowout win over Westbury. Grant had 15 rebounds and 22 points in this game and showcased that he has good off ball movement, efficient finishing under the basket, and good IQ on defense that allows him to play passing lanes and get stops in the paint and on the perimeter. This was my first time watching Maher and I was impressed by his overall game as a 2027 athlete who is slowly making his way onto the radar. I will definitely be tuned in to his future games moving forward!

Larry was a force in the paint for Washington on Monday morning. He showed that he can be a quick and efficient shooter as well and had several and-one finishes in the paint that he cashed in at the charity stripe. Butler runs the floor well in transition as a big and knows how to fill his lanes correctly on fastbreaks. One of the promising 2028 hoopers I was able to put my eyes on yesterday, Larry made quite the first impression with some high IQ play on both sides of the ball.

Jackson Cooper helped Kingwood steer the ship in their win over Westbury, running the offense from the point guard slot. His craftiness getting to the basket came in handy as he sliced and diced the defense to get tough buckets in the paint. Jackson's most important and high-quality attribute that stood out to me was his playmaking especially off the pick and roll and having the wherewithal to swing the ball around the perimeter when searching for open shots. He handled the ball well under pressure and was a key component of the Mustangs staying calm and poised during the entire duration of the game. As only a 2028 and focal ballhandler for Kingwood on varsity, I see Jackson making major strides over the next few years of his high school career.
