The Gettysburg Battlers step into the 2025–26 season carrying more than just the usual anticipation that comes with a new year of hoops, they're stepping into history. For the first time in more than 10 years, the “Gettysburg Battlers” name returns to the floor following the end of the longtime co-op with Hoven, making this winter feel especially meaningful. Led by head coach Bryce Hall and assistant coach Micah Baldwin, the Battlers are energized, motivated, and eager to showcase what Class B basketball in Region 6 is all about.
Summing Up Last Season

"Last season wasn't the outcome that we were hoping for. Scoring struggles and a very young bench squad meant we were spending time building cohesion. By the end of the season we were closing games much better than we were at the beginning, even pulling off an upset in the first round of the Regional bracket."

Defense

"Battler basketball has and will continue to be a team that hangs its hat on defensive pressure. Whether in the half or full court, our mindset is that we need to be relentless, fearless, and passionate. Teams know that facing the Battlers means that there will be pressure and an eager defense if the ball crosses the half-court line."

Lead Guards

"Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='3191972' first='Jerand' last='Chase'] has the reins for the team this year. He has proven himself to be a capable ball handler and scorer consistently being in double figures even as the third option last season. Behind him we have [player_tooltip player_id='3192082' first='Jensen' last='Zweber'] and [player_tooltip player_id='3192095' first='Colby' last='Falkenhagen'] that are both very capable in their own rights."

Offseason

"This offseason we focused on building our cohesion as a young team. Team camps around the Region were our proving ground for the foundation that was built. The foundation stood strong as we faced larger AA schools and familiar Regional opponents. We saw where we still needed improvement as well as where we can make our strengths more defined."

More on the Battlers Defense

"The Battlers are a defense-first team. That being said, we have a couple of players who stand out in that aspect of the game. Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='3191972' first='Jerand' last='Chase'] came off of last season, averaging around three steals a game along with quite a few deflections. He's got a developed basketball IQ and pairs that with his hustle to make these plays happen. Sophomore forward [player_tooltip player_id='2714728' first='Jack' last='Simon'] did a great job last year of shutting down post play from other teams. Even though he was a freshman, Jack never seemed outclassed in strength in the post. As his game awareness developed throughout the season, his defense began to extend beyond the paint. We expect that to continue this season."

Up & Comers

"Be on the lookout for [player_tooltip player_id='3192031' first='Tyson' last='Falkenhagen'] this season. He's a freshman guard that showed some great potential during the offseason. His impact might not be massive this first year, but he is a name to watch for sure as he continues to develop as a player. Another player to keep an ear open for is junior guard/forward [player_tooltip player_id='3192082' first='Jensen' last='Zweber']. Jensen earned time on the varsity floor toward the end of last season for his hustle. He proved to be a reliable scorer during the offseason and will likely see quite a few varsity minutes this season."

Top Teams

"The best team in our Region is Sully Buttes. Their core of senior guards that can shoot, along with some up-and-coming sophomores and freshmen, make them a team to keep an eye on for some games in March. The other team that comes to mind is Aberdeen Christian. They made a good run at the State Tournament last year and kept most of their team as well."

Final Comments

"We're excited to get the season underway. This is a special season for our community and us since it will be the first time that the “Gettysburg Battlers” will take the floor in over a decade since the end of the sports co-op with Hoven."
