On Tuesday Dec 9th I watched the match-up of 5A North Canyon Rattlers hosting the 5A Desert Edge Scorpions. The Scorpions look to get into the 5A playoffs and maybe make a run and the Rattlers will be scratching and clawing all year to try and get in.

I checked out the Varsity game.

Here were the standouts on the night

Varsity Game (90-72 Desert Edge won)

[player_tooltip player_id='2533594' first='CJ' last='Johnson'] Desert Edge (Pictured)

A good sized scoring point guard had a huge game with facilitating and putting points up. He will fill it up with post ups, fall aways, an incredible poster dunk, blow by buckets, offensive rebound put backs and he will make plays. He is a live dribble passer and sees the court quickly. He scored 31 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2466071' first='Nick' last='Appenzeller'] Desert Edge

The good sized cerebral power forward scores it with step thru's, euros, tough contested layups, hook shots, he ran the court in transition, dunked it and will gain extra possessions on the glass. He is a great passer with soft hands and a big IQ. He scored 28 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2772557' first='Jude' last='Ramirez'] Desert Edge

A combo guard is wired to score. He can make good reads to teammates but will score it with the floater game, he slithers in the lane with a quick burst to the rim and he will ball fake into a dribble drive layup or get fouled. He scored 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='2466706' first='Mehki' last='Storkel'] Desert Edge

A bigger sized combo guard can play on or off the ball. When CJ goes out, he leads them with good timing on his passes and calmness with the ball. He will score with rip thrus to the basket, long euro steps, offensive rebound put backs and he will throw it down. He rebounds the ball exceptionally well for a guard. He scored 12-14 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1726571' first='Rinor' last='Gerbiqi'] North Canyon

A bigger sized combo guard can light up the scoreboard in a hurry. He hit some tough shots when they were down big to cut into the lead. He will score with post ups using his size and he is super crafty to get downhill with and-1's. He has a quick spin move into a sharp pull-up, a polished floater game and he will drill triples one by one with no conscience. He scored nearly 30 points.

[player_tooltip player_id='2754847' first='Malik' last='Robinson'] North Canyon

A good showing by the junior point guard. He is very fast and he flies in the open court. He will score with threes off the catch and has a high level pull-up and he can fall away from his defender with high elevation to create the separation. He is tough on the ball and will collect steals and lay it in. He scored nearly 25 points.
