PICTURED: [player_tooltip player_id='2401962' first='Porter' last='Dickson']

Late October, we updated the 2028 player rankings. In this feature, the second of the positional breakdown series, the focus is shooting guards. If you feel you belong, then DM @PrepHoopsTN highlights anytime.

Ranking Risers

[player_tooltip player_id='2799572' first='Markel' last='Townsend'] climbed a touch from #71 to #69 in this latest iteration. Townsend is blindingly quick and comfortable in tight squeezes.

Pigeon Forge guard [player_tooltip player_id='2610387' first='Bryson' last='Morrissette'] hopped up from #37 to #35. His size and confidence at 6-foot-4 suggests a brilliant sophomore season to come.

[player_tooltip player_id='2869497' first='Lucas' last='Graves'] (Brentwood Academy) elevated himself from #29 to #24. Like Bryson, Graves capably attacks from the wing at 6-foot-4ish.

Best Basketball Maturity

[player_tooltip player_id='2799572' first='Markel' last='Townsend'], [player_tooltip player_id='2935143' first='David' last='Scott'], [player_tooltip player_id='2859657' first='Zuri' last='McClure'], [player_tooltip player_id='2779440' first='Ethan' last='Woolard'], and [player_tooltip player_id='2855437' first='Tristan' last='Farris'] played a ton of varsity last season. Expect another leap in performance from each this upcoming sophomore season.

As a freshman [player_tooltip player_id='2859657' first='Zuri' last='McClure'] finished as a double-figure scorer 22 times! In all, Zuri dropped over 400 points through the iron halo.

Slashers

[player_tooltip player_id='2610390' first='Carter' last='Cox'] will get to the rim against any underclassman. Cox plays with abnormal confidence and strength.

[player_tooltip player_id='2550772' first='Travis' last='Martin'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2460271' first='Amari' last='Martin'] are both adept on the low blocks. Though neither slash as much as hulk up the two unrelated wings consistently get to the danger zone.

Sharpshooters

[player_tooltip player_id='2869497' first='Lucas' last='Graves'] will be one of the best shooters in middle Tennessee and might not even start for a deep Brentwood Academy team. What makes Graves' potential so exciting is his height for the position. It is right in line with the kind of tall shooters that colleges prefer.

[player_tooltip player_id='2401962' first='Porter' last='Dickson'] starred in June at the @PrepHoopsTN Summer Combine just northeast of Chattanooga. The consistency elevated him from the masses and Dickson buried a buzzer-beating game-winning three-pointer just before lunch. At times, tall shooters lack speed and agility. Thanks to his attendance at Bearden High Dickson will be challenged and pushed in this facet.

[player_tooltip player_id='2550772' first='Travis' last='Martin'] moved from Wisconsin and the northern state carries a strong tradition of outside shooting. Martin did not disappoint at The Expo: Tennessee with above average shooting and passing.

[player_tooltip player_id='2693721' first='Lucas' last='Kinnard'] carries a reputation as a tremendous shooter, from as deep as any. Kinnard turned a lot of heads during AAU with this advanced skill. Though Kinnard is an undersized guard beyond high school his skill is tremendous and may force colleges to recruit him.

[player_tooltip player_id='2935143' first='David' last='Scott'] proved his prowess at The Expo: Tennessee during the final weekend of September 2025.
