Saturday was the final day of the 3rd annual Fred VanVleet Classic hosted by Rockford Auburn High School. After the last contest on Friday there was supposed to be 8 games throughout the day on Saturday from 9:30AM to 8:00PM. By Saturday morning due to inclement weather that number had dropped to 3 games between Springfield Lanphier/Chicago Clark, Rockford East/Elgin Larkin, and Rockford Auburn/Warren. After the final buzzer of Lanphier and Clark an announcement was made that the other 2 afternoon games would be cancelled because of a snow storm. PHI was still on top of it covering the lone game of the day. No matter who plays during this classic or what the final scores are, this shootout is very well known for bringing in a ton of top tier talent from across the Midwest. The 2 Illinois schools that ended the day were no different. Let's breakdown a handful of guys who were impressive in the morning matchup.

Scoring finals by quarter.

Lanphier: 11, 18, 33, 39
Clark: 15, 29, 48, 58

Full time point guard for the Eagles that has quickness and speed in his arsenal. Fierce ball handler who controlled the pace of the game from the git go. Defensively is equipped with quick lateral movement. Anticipated passes getting his hands on a couple balls in the passing lane to disrupt flow. Offensively facilitated accordingly in the zone chopping guys up off the bounce. Kicked out for three's or hit the cutters diving to the rim to fill up the assist department. Got it out on the outlet to initiate offense quickly. Well balanced fit for a point position at the next level.

Cuts with intention off the ball to get himself and others open. Retrieved it at least 3 times diving down the lane to catch and score with one being for an and1. Same stuff off of BLOB actions. Scored at least twice finding gaps in the zone defense to score it directly from the inbounds' man. Was heavy and active on the glass with a handful plus rebounds on both ends of the floor. Most impressed with his talking defensively calling out screens and giving other guys' energy. An encourager and team player who likes to compete. Plays a small forward position. Led team with 14.

The most athletic player on the court today but fell into foul trouble early which limited minutes throughout the game. Made a positive impact and a big difference when he was on the floor. Started out with a hard take to the cup in traffic, a steal then bucket the other way, a clean block defensively, and was causing difficulties in the back court on top of team's 1,2,2 trap presser. Legit length that causes defensive frustrations. Hit a tough fadeaway over defenders outstretched arm from 6 feet and looked smooth doing so. Should be on coach's radars as a current 3 man.

Another undersized post but fills the role effectively. Did a lot of little things correctly. Cleans up the glass on both ends. Had a couple offensive rebounds to give team energy with one being for a put back and1. Smart IQ. Knew when to drive if openings were there against the zone. Found his way to the basket vs more athleticism and adjusted to what defense gave. Impactful player.

Could fit in to a combo guard role at the next level. Has length with handling abilities. Played in both the 1 and 2 slots depending on the sequence during today's game. Caused mismatches offensively on smaller guards out of pick and rolls. Got to the stripe a few times because of height advantage down low. Glided in the air on a breakaway showing natural bounce and leap. Tangible assets are there.
