The kickoff to the 2026 High School basketball season was led by the Tocoi Creek vs Bishop Kenny matchup in Jacksonville, FL. In this close-knit game, there were many first impressions, so let's dive right in!

King McFadden, 6'3”, So. G (Tocoi Creek)

To start off his sophomore year on varsity, King had himself a standout game going for 31 points and a three-point, buzzer-beating, game winner to seal the 61-60 victory over a talented Bishop Kenny squad. He made a statement early scoring from a multitude of spots on the floor and getting to the line. While also showing up on the defensive end, his all-around game makes him an immediate threat anytime he is on the floor. He is certainly poised to lead his team to this season and after setting the bar high for himself, it'll be a sight to see if he can keep this momentum going forward.

[player_tooltip player_id='2217914' first='Javares' last='Rickerson'], 6'1, Sr. G (Tocoi Creek)

Javares had a tough start to his senior season, only scoring seven points in the first half and three for the rest of the game. He got in foul trouble going into the second half and after checking back in late, picked up his fifth immediately. While he did have a rough start, as you watch him play, you can see why the senior guard was visibly frustrated with himself as he is a skillful guard who can get to the rim at will. With his calm demeanor on the court, Javares is certainly a force to be reckoned with on the floor and for Tocoi Creek to gain momentum during the season, his running mate, King, will need Javares and his leadership to help make a run in the state semifinals like they did last year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2529556' first='Drew' last='Jackson'], 5'11” Jr. PG (Bishop Kenny)

Leading the way for the Crusaders, [player_tooltip player_id='2529556' first='Drew' last='Jackson'], also had himself a game, scoring 26 points. Drew is a crafty guard with excellent ball-handling skills that makes him a tough guard for anyone. From reverse layups to lengthy three-point attempts, Drew put on a statement performance to solidify himself as a top guard in the area. Seemingly being the number one scoring option for Bishop Kenny, these types of performances will take the Crusaders a long way if he keeps it up. Surrounded by senior big men, who also play their roles effectively, this team has all the makings of a great season ahead.

Evan Kosciulek, 6'4” Jr. C, PF (Bishop Kenny)

Evan started off the season with a bang, scoring off a rim-rocking dunk on the baseline inbounds. This play alone served as a huge momentum swing in the game, showcasing Evan's immediate impact. While the 6'4” big man only scored four points, it's safe to say that in the near future, you can expect to a see him on the floor a lot more, increasing his production. His game is one that any coach would love to have as he is a versatile big who rebounds and can run the floor. His long frame creates a lot of havoc in the post, which will be advantageous for the Crusaders this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='2617781' first='Hogan' last='Labyak'], 6'1” Jr. PG, SG (Bishop Kenny)
As the undeniable engine of the Crusaders, Hogan is the do-it-all player that every good team needs. While the stat sheet only shows 10 points, Hogan is so much more than that, as he does a lot of the little things that don't show up on the scoresheet. I was impressed with his leadership capabilities, as well as making his presence felt early and often throughout the game. As the cornerstone of the team, one could anticipate Hogan having a big game at some point during the season.
