NJ Hoop Recruit Hooptoberfest: More Day 1 Notables

One of New Jersey's most exciting and highly anticipated preseason basketball showcases, the NJ Hoop Recruit Hooptoberfest, made its return this fall—this time taking place at East Orange Campus in East Orange, NJ. The event featured a strong collection of programs from across North Jersey and highlighted dozens of talented prospects who stood out throughout the opening day of competition. With that in mind, let's take a closer look at some of Saturday's top performers.    Gerlad Edwell's physically imposing size and strength allowed him to be a huge difference maker throughout the course of Saturday;s action. Edwell was extremely impactful on the offensive glass generating a ton of second chance opportunities while also being an efficient low post scorer, using his strong bodied to back down defenders and finish in the paint. Edwell also flashed his outside shot making ability, knocking down fluid mid range pull ups.     A nice connective piece figured to provide nice depth from the guard position for St. Joe's this season, [player_tooltip player_id='2917859' first='Alijah' last='Murphy'] shined in his ability to be effective within the flow of the offense. Murphy thrived in a role that saw him be effective as a spot up shooter, an additional ball handler, and a connective passer all while also pressuring the ball on the defensive end of the floor.     Often times the engine behind Ramapo's offensive success, [player_tooltip player_id='2194744' first='AJ' last='Greig'] shined in the different ways he found to score the basketball. Greig found different angles to attack the basket particularly out of face up dribble drive opportunities, initiating contact and ultimately generating ample trips to the free throw line. Greig also flashed his perimeter shooting ability as a spot up shooter.     [player_tooltip player_id='2932320' first='Caleb' last='Jones'] possesses intriguing length coupled with a good motor, both in which he uses to thrive and impact the game off activity. Jones excelled as a finisher, rim running in transition, getting putbacks on the offensive glass, and even catching dump offs from the dunker spot. Jones also flashed his athleticism on a few above the rim finishes as well.     A young but proving to be a instant impact guard for Roselle Catholic, Holland Johnson thrived off of RC's effort and emphasis of playing in the open floor. Johnson was extremely effective running the alleys with purpose in transition, allowing him to often times get ahead of the defense and finish strong at the basket.     Serving as Montclair's primary ball handler, Mason Determann was an effective floor general who orchestrated the offense while contributing as a scorer. Determann displayed good court vision, aggressive in pushing the pace and often times finding open teammates in the open floor who were ahead of the defense. Determan also showcased his ability to take his defender off the bounce and get to the rim.
