With the 2025–26 hoops season fast approaching, Class A Region 4 is gearing up for another exciting year packed with potential and promise. Rising players are ready to take on bigger roles, while new faces look to make their mark among the Region's top talent. As the season's storylines begin to take shape, one thing remains certain — Region 4 basketball continues to showcase some of the most competitive and entertaining play in the state year after year.   At Prep Hoops Dakotas, we've highlighted a handful of breakout players ready to elevate their game this season. Each brings a unique blend of skill, competitiveness, and work ethic that sets them apart. Some are emerging scorers, others steady leaders or all-around playmakers — but all share one thing in common: the potential to make a major impact on the 2025–26 season.   These are Region 4's breakout candidates — ready to rise this season! The Titans' quarterback is set to transition seamlessly into his natural role on the hardwood — running the show as Trinity's primary ball handler. After thriving on the football field this fall as QB, Kuntz should enter basketball season brimming with confidence and leadership. An explosive athlete with solid handles, capable shooting, and a quality skill set, Brody has all the tools to make a sizable leap this winter. If he can continue to sharpen his real-time decision-making at the point, he has a real chance to elevate from a good player to a great one. The Titans will go as their floor general goes — and [player_tooltip player_id='2377525' first='Brody' last='Kuntz'] looks ready to steer them toward another strong season.     With a new head coach and a fresh outlook, Watford City is set for a new chapter — and [player_tooltip player_id='2635183' first='Carter' last='Breitbach'] could be the player leading that charge. The talented guard is expected to take over as the floor general for the Wolves this season, bringing energy, leadership, and versatility to the lineup. Breitbach spent the offseason grinding — logging heavy minutes in club ball (Ernest Academy) and putting in countless hours developing his game. He'll be asked to defend at a high level, distribute the rock, and score when needed, truly doing a bit of everything for this new-look Wolves squad. With his work ethic and poise, Carter has all the tools to be a breakout baller and set the tone for Watford City's 2025–26 season.     [player_tooltip player_id='2634212' first='Chase' last='Kling'] has all the makings of a breakout baller for the Killdeer Cowboys this season. Known for his energy, effort, and defensive toughness, Kling is stepping into a larger role after providing key minutes off the bench a year ago. With several key players lost to graduation, the Cowboys will look to Kling to help lead the way. A hard-working guard who can knock down the three-ball, finish strong at the rim, and command the floor, Chase also takes pride in being the team's best defender. His intensity and leadership will set the tone for Killdeer on both ends of the court. If he continues to build on last year's growth, Kling could emerge as an All-Region 4 performer by season's end.     [player_tooltip player_id='3028575' first='Colton' last='Christenson'] has the tools and toughness to emerge as a breakout player in Region 4 this season. A physical presence in the post, Christenson brings intensity on both ends of the floor and doesn't shy away from contact. Offensively, he boasts a smooth hook shot, a reliable mid-range jumper, and consistently sets hard, effective screens to create opportunities for his teammates. Combined with his relentless energy and intensity, Colton is a player who can make a real impact for the Titans this season and establish himself as a key contributor in the paint.     [player_tooltip player_id='2132774' first='Dawson' last='Davis'] is ready to take the reins for Shiloh Christian this season. After a strong sophomore campaign where he shot the ball well and showed flashes of big-time scoring ability, Davis now steps into a featured role following the graduation of several key Skyhawks. With a green light to score, expect Davis to be the team's leading scorer and a primary playmaker. He can stretch the floor with his shooting, create off the bounce, and could thrive with the ball in his hands. As the Skyhawks reload for another run, Davis looks primed to put up gaudy numbers and establish himself as one of the top emerging guards in Region 4.     [player_tooltip player_id='2708823' first='Jett' last='Jungers'] is a young but talented player whose future is incredibly bright. Even as a freshman, he's poised to be a key contributor for Hazen, tasked with defending one of the opponent's top players each night. His athleticism, improved shooting, and ball-handling skills make him capable of rising to the challenge. Jungers has put in countless hours developing his game and will take on the role of a true floor general, pushing the ball, creating opportunities, and aiming to score more than he did last year. With his combination of talent, work ethic, and defensive intensity, Jett is expected to have a breakout season and make an immediate impact for the Hazen program.     [player_tooltip player_id='1951580' first='Lawrence' last='Marshall'] is set to make a major impact as one of the top BIGs in Region 4 this season. Although he earned All-Region 3 honors last year, New Town's move into Region 4 gives him a new stage — and he's ready to dominate it. Marshall is a high-motor forward who cleans the glass, protects the rim, and scores in multiple ways. Skilled with the ball and strong around the basket, he brings an all-around game that creates constant matchup problems. A grinder and relentless worker, Marshall's toughness and versatility make him a cornerstone for the Eagles and a player every team in Region 4 will have to account for this winter.     [player_tooltip player_id='2631384' first='Philip' last='Weidner'] might still be young, but he's ready to make a major impact for Beulah this season. After logging varsity minutes a year ago, Weidner looks poised to take the next step and become one of the Miners' key contributors. He had a highly impressive offseason, putting in serious work in the weight room and transforming his body — now noticeably stronger, more explosive, and physically mature beyond his years. Phil has sharpened every part of his game, from finishing at the rim to defending multiple positions. His relentless motor, high-level rebounding, and defensive energy make him a coach's dream. With defenses focusing on other top players, Weidner has a chance to quietly put together a breakout season. His work ethic and competitiveness set the tone for Beulah, and the future is incredibly bright for this young standout.     The Watford City Wolves are building a new basketball culture under head coach Justin Hager, and [player_tooltip player_id='2635169' first='Thaydan' last='Arnold'] is right at the center of it — literally and figuratively. The 6'3" returning starter is one of the most athletic big men in the state and embodies the toughness, leadership, and energy the Wolves are looking to establish moving forward. Starting at center (OL) on the football field, Arnold brings that same grit and physicality to the hardwood. He's excellent with his back to the basket, a high-IQ player, and a strong passer who makes teammates better. As a captain and leader, Thaydan will be relied on to control the boards, protect the paint, and set the tone for this evolving program. With his athleticism, motor, and commitment to the Wolves' new direction, Arnold is poised to be a breakout baller and a key piece in shaping Watford City's new basketball identity.     [player_tooltip player_id='2635185' first='Trysten' last='DeVries'] is a versatile 6'3" returning starter who could be a major breakout player for the new-look Watford City Wolves. Under new head coach Justin Hager, DeVries is expected to take on a huge role this season — and he has all the tools to make a big impact. A true do-it-all athlete, DeVries can play all five positions, defend multiple spots, and consistently fill the stat sheet. His energy, defensive presence, and leadership set the tone for the Wolves, and his ability to impact the game in so many ways makes him invaluable. A long, athletic guard, McGorman brings experience, leadership, and versatility to a team building a new culture under head coach Justin Hager. Xavier's length and athleticism make him a difference-maker on the defensive end, where he can guard multiple positions and disrupt opposing offenses. Offensively, his ability to attack the basket and finish through contact gives the Wolves a dynamic scoring threat on the wing.
