With the debut of our first ever Virginia 2028 class rankings last month, we'll take a deep dive into some of the players and their strengths now as we continue to watch them develop. Here's part one of some of the top shooters in the sophomore class in VA.

Jackson Wooten | 6'1” SG | Bishop O'Connell (#24 Overall)

Wooten played JV last season for O'Connell and moved up to the varsity team for the summer, and showed that he will be a vital piece for them off the bench this season. The 6'1” two guard has great understanding of how to move off the ball and read screens to create space, he sets his feet quickly with a quick release, he has good range well past the line, and he can create his own shot as well.

Levi Mann | 5'11” CG | Appomatox (#33 Overall)

It's been quite a while since we've had a player from Appomatox in our rankings, but Mann had a solid freshman season and will only get better moving forward as one of the top shooters in the Central VA area. The 5'11” combo guard has a lot of confidence in his ability to let it fly, he can drill it from deep off the catch or get to spots in the midrange where he has good footwork to get to the pull-up, and he brings some toughness and a competitive chip to his game too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2479654' first='Chaycen' last='Harman'] | 5'11” CG | Floyd County (#35 Overall)

Harman, the son of Floyd's long time coach Brian Harman, came in as a freshman and provided valuable minutes off the bench for Buffaloes squad that made a run to the state semifinal, and he's next in the long line of shooters to come from Floyd. He's the type of player you can tell is the son of a coach and has played a lot of basketball with his understanding of spacing and good decision making, he can drill it from deep on the move and on spot ups, and he has great instincts on the defensive end too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2548191' first='Trenton' last='Blosser'] | 6'1” SG | Spotswood (#37 Overall)

Blosser is a star baseball player who is already getting recruited by division one schools for his pitching ability, and as he transfers to Spotswood from East Rockingham he'll give them yet another shot maker to build around after winning the Class 3 state championship last year. The 6'1” off guard has long arms and a quick release so he doesn't need much space, he can drill it off the catch at a high clip, he can get to spots and hit tough shots in the midrange, and he brings great energy to his team as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2548180' first='Harrison' last='Hazelgrove'] | 6'1” SG | Steward School (#48 Overall)

Hazelgrove played a minor role for a good Steward School team last year, but with their top players leaving and a fresh new group in this year he'll play a much bigger role as a knock down shooter who can play on both ends too. He's a high IQ player who has great instincts moving off the ball and on the defensive end too, he can drill it from deep with good range, and he's a crafty and savvy player who can bait and draw fouls quite a bit.

[player_tooltip player_id='2919007' first='Johnny' last='Resta'] | 6'1” SG | Bishop O'Connell (#53 Overall)

Resta may play on the JV team at O'Connell, but he's got a bright future as he continues to grow into his body and develop his all-around game. Over the summer at an AAU event I watched him go for 31 points while making 9 three-pointers, as he showed deep range and great form from the feet up, the ability to get into his shot on the move and off the bounce, and great confidence as he continued to let it fly.
