NJ Legacy Paterson Fall Ball: Thursday, September 25th Standouts

Fall basketball is fully in the thick of things across New Jersey, with high school prospects competing in various preseason leagues and showcases throughout the state. Even at this early point in the calendar, players are beginning to define or elevate their roles ahead of the upcoming season. Among one of the better fall leagues is the New Jersey Legacy Paterson Fall Ball League, hosted at the storied Paterson Catholic in Paterson, NJ. With that in mind, let's highlight some of the standout performers from last night's games.    [player_tooltip player_id='2932335' first='Jayvon' last='Rogers'] showed flashes of his finishing ability Thursday afternoon, particularly in face up situations and attacking closeouts. The offense frequently ran through Rogers, with a clear emphasis on getting him touches both out on the perimeter and establishing him as a focal point inside on post hits as well. Rogers showed flashes of his potential as a low post scorer, showing his ability to catch and finish around the basket.     Aggressive in hunting his shot from three point range, Matthew Synsmir was an exceptional catch and shoot threat Thursday afternoon. Possessing a compact release, Synsmir displayed good intangibles as a shooter— consistently being shot ready and always sprinting the floor to the corners in transition. Synsmir also showed flashes of his ability to be an additional ball handler and get in the paint at times.     Max Gastelu excelled as an offensive initiator and facilitator, running the show from the point guard spot. Gastelu displayed his creativity and pace off the bounce, getting in the paint and creating scoring chances for his teammates while also mixing in some strong finishes through contact and showing nice touch on his floaters. Gastelu proved to be a fundamentally sound basketball player that plays off two feet, uses reverse pivots and step throughs well, is strong with the basketball, plays at his own pace, and has a strong feel for the game.     A floor general with a strong and confident handle, Mason Determann was aggressive facilitator of the basketball, looking to get his teammates heavily involved. Determann showed he has good feel for the game, drawing help defenders and making precise passes to open shooters and cutting teammates. Determann also displayed his decision making ability in the PnR making a number of good reads with the ball in his hands. Determann also did a good job of advancing the ball up the floor with a number of full court passes he made throughout the course of Thursday's action.     Displaying a compelling combination of shot making and ball distribution, RJ Annecchini excelled not only as a threat from three point range but also as a facilitator, getting his teammates involved offensively. A confident shooter with a compact release, Annecchini thrived as a floor spacer, knocking down a handful of open looks from the perimeter. Annecchini also showed his good court vision and passing ability with a number of passes he made to his teammates as an outlet against Pioneer Academy's zone.
