Doug's Dozen Fall Shootout: Saturday Guard Watch

Last afternoon, Doug Jones expanded his event from just being a summer event to having a fall showcase take place in Greater Houston. Dougs Fall Shootout attracted many of the top teams from around the Houston area and several prospects caught my eye with their great play. All types of media, scouts, and analysts were in attendance to support the event and several new players I had never watched before caught my eye. Let's examine some of these talented hoopers and analyze their games before the season.    Daniel Green was one of the new guards I scouted on Saturday at the tournament. He impressed me during the Sharks' victory over Wheatley, and his playmaking was critical to his team's ability to score the ball down the stretch. Green was money from the midrange, and he was effective keeping teammates involved, as well as showing ability to create his own shot in isolation situations "DT" was effective in transition scenarios as well, helping keep the numbers advantage for Creek to get easy buckets in the paint and keep up the full court press. I have a feeling that Daniel will be a huge factor at either guard slot for Shadow Creek this year and his presence will be felt on the court.     Luzey was a momentum shifter for Grand Oaks in their win over Cy Park and helped his team on both ends. His aggressive perimeter defense was contagious helping the Grizzlies get multiple steals and he is a smart decision maker with the ball in his hands, taking open shots and converting at the foul stripe when he is met with contact in the paint. Morgan could be one of the more slept on 2026 hoopers in Greater Houston if he keeps up the impressive play coming off a strong summer with the [program_tooltip program_id='2078788' first='Houston' last='Defenders'].     [player_tooltip player_id='2555182' first='Christian' last='Haskett'] was perhaps the most versatile guard/wing in attendance on Saturday, and he displayed that against Westfield and Shadow Creek in his new Westbrook threads. Haskett transferred from Houston Christian to the Beaumont area for this season and he is already making moves as one of the best players on the team scoring over tough defense, showcasing athleticism on rebounds, and pushing the ball in transition. Christian impressed me last year on the Mustangs, but he can be a college ready prospect if he continues playing at this impressive level.     [player_tooltip player_id='1802465' first='Amare' last='Hatchett'] was the main scorer for Montgomery in their close loss to PNG on Saturday. Amare was scoring the ball from all 3 levels efficiently and showed great ability to be an effective point guard with high IQ. Hatchett uses quick and shifty moves with the basketball to create his own shot from anywhere on the court and he almost had a double-double against PNG due to his hot shooting and ability to distribute the ball to open teammates. He will be the main difference maker for Montgomery this year as they compete down the stretch of the season.
