"For most of our players, this was their third or fourth consecutive summer playing together with [program_tooltip program_id='2075302' first='Sacred' last='Hoops']. To have that consistency and familiarity between players and families made each weekend something to look forward to, whether it was joking around and waiting for the next game or going out to eat after a hard-fought day."   PHD: Can you tell us about a memorable play or game?   "Our first game of the weekend in Kansas City at the Hardwood Classic was quite memorable. We played a hard-fought game and lost by 1 point in the final seconds. For most of the game, though, we were trailing by double-digits and made a strong push in the second half thanks to some well-executed defensive adjustments and exceptional offensive possessions. The boys ended up winning the remaining games that weekend and took second in their pool."   PHD: Who was your "go-to" player when you needed a basket?   "With this team, our "go-to" player was dependent on the situation and anyone could step up and knock down a shot when the team needed it. In many cases, I would look to [player_tooltip player_id='2238341' first='Kyler' last='Carlson'], [player_tooltip player_id='2318434' first='Holden' last='Wollmann'], or [player_tooltip player_id='2862513' first='Bubba' last='Kono']. All three of them have great court vision, know when to attack the rim, and when they have the go-ahead to hit a jumper."   PHD: Who was your most improved player?   "The most improved players this summer were [player_tooltip player_id='2288945' first='Peyton' last='Lamb'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2258435' first='Braydyn' last='Morrison']. Peyton became more confident in his rebounding, ability to play solid defense in the paint, and scoring around the rim. Braydyn is a perimeter sharpshooter and honed his shooting mechanics, improving his ability to catch and shoot and score off the dribble."   PHD: How did the team improve from the start of the season to the end?   "The team has improved every summer they've been together, and this summer, they narrowed their focus on the little things that aren't always shown in the box score or highlight reels. The boys took great care with the basketball and limited their turnovers, fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor, and made defensive adjustments. Defense, both individually and as a team, is something we took pride in and it showed the most improvement and growth from April to July."   PHD: Who were a few of your hardest workers?   "[player_tooltip player_id='2424127' first='Joshua' last='Moberg'] stands out because he was a nightmare for anyone he matched up with. He kept his nose to the ball on defense and put pressure on players from the moment they inbounded the ball."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2862513' first='Bubba' last='Kono'] stands out because he is a vocal leader who can be placed anywhere on the court. Bubba's hustle and ability to see the court are second-to-none."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2318434' first='Holden' last='Wollmann'] stands out because he has a quick first step off the dribble, has exceptional endurance and never gets tired, and he can create a shot for himself with ease, regardless of how tight the defender is on him."   "[player_tooltip player_id='2238341' first='Kyler' last='Carlson'] stands out because he plays with a chip on his shoulder, is aggressive getting downhill, and has a quick 3-point jumpshot. He's tough on defense, too, and forces a lot of turnovers."   PHD: Can you talk about a time when you and the team overcame adversity?   "Our team overcame adversity in many games after starting slow and falling behind 12-15+ points. Time and time again, they found a way to regroup and play phenomenal team basketball, which often resulted in erasing that deficit within 3-4 minutes. When things got tough for this group, they came out of the huddle ready to battle."   PHD: Who was your top post player?   "Our top post player this summer was [player_tooltip player_id='2338075' first='Connor' last='Clark']. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and embraces contact on both ends of the court. He played outstanding post defense and caused a lot of frustration for opponents because of his physicality when one-on-one. Offensively, he can score at every level and catches defenses off guard in his ability to catch and shoot, drive to the rim, and play patiently in the post for his shot."   PHD: What kind of identity did this team take on?    "This summer, our team took on an identity of confidence and teamwork. With a team that has been together for as long as they have, they know each other's strengths and weaknesses, how to push their teammates and support them if they are having an off game, and understand what it takes for them to win. They approached each game with veteran confidence that they could compete and leave the court with a win. Their experience together showed in the huddle, especially. Whether it was a timeout, halftime, or a dead ball situation, the boys took the initiative to do the talking and coached each other."   PHD: Who emerged as an unexpected contributor or breakout star?   "A breakout star for us this summer was [player_tooltip player_id='2862513' first='Bubba' last='Kono']. He's one of the hardest workers on the court and hustles to any spot he goes to. I've been fortunate to see Bubba develop through the years, and this summer was his largest stride forward -- just in time for his senior year on a star-studded West Central team. He played through a lot of fatigue and injury in the latter half of the summer, but that didn't stop him from outworking his opponents."   PHD: What lessons from this season go beyond basketball?   "This team learned from this summer and throughout the years that confidence can take them far, but their ability to put in the hard work, focus on the fundamentals, and have an optimistic frame of mind will take them much further in basketball and life."   PHD: Any last comments?   "I'm fortunate to have coached these boys for 3-4 consecutive summers, and I am proud of their growth as basketball players and young men. I can't wait to see their success continue into their senior years and beyond!"
