Curry College Camp: Honorable Mentions

On Sunday, August 10th, I attended Curry College's elite camp, run by PA Athletics and head coach Phil Alibrandi. There were 40+ kids and lots of talent in the gym. Quiles has a case for being the most skilled guard at camp. He's only 5-foot-8 and fairly skinny, but he has great change of pace/change of direction capabilities with his handle, and lots of feel for the game. He starts and stops so easily and really understands how to play with patience and control in the paint once he gets by his initial defender, and I love the way he Nash dribbles on the baseline. He also has some athletic pop at the rim and really solid passing vision. Height is going to limit his recruitment, but perhaps the rising junior is still growing. Regardless, I think he can play D3 hoops somewhere.     I didn't notice Mchugh for most of the day, but he came on late and really impressed me with his open-floor handle and slow step moves in the paint. The 6-foot-1 wing has some heft to him and is able to move defenders in the paint, and he's always ready to drive, shoot, or pass on the catch. He made some high level passes and seems to have an unselfish mindset when it comes to involving teammates. If he wants to play D3 ball, I think he'll need to improve his shot a bit, but the rising junior has lots of time to do that.     Hartmann is an interesting long term prospect because of his combination of size, length and athleticism. The 6-foot-2 wing is able to provide rim protection because of his physical tools, and he also showed the ability to create some threes for himself on the offensive end. Most impressive was his above-the-rim athleticism in the open floor, where he showcased some solid hops and finishing ability. If Hartmann wants to play college ball, he'll need to improve his handle and creation ability and/or get a little stronger, but both of those things are very possible for him.     Fletcher was one of the best above-the-rim athletes at camp and showcased some really impressive hops in the paint. He got by his initial defender with solid consistency and despite not having big time size, he was able to finish above the defense because of his jumping ability and body control. He also made some outside shots and did the little things defensively for his squad. He'll need to improve his handle and shooting if he wants to play D3 ball, but the physical tools are there.     Bryce is the twin brother of Cole and possesses very similar athletic ability. However, Bryce is a little more adept at getting into the lane and rising up for pull up jumpers, making him a better scorer (but perhaps a slightly worse athlete). He has great balance and control on his mid range, and he can get to it going both left and right. He certainly needs some better discernment on what's a good vs. bad shot, but that can come with time. I wouldn't be surprised to see him find a D3 fit.
