As we step into the summer months, a few camps still operate in the landscape, among the best and most prominent is run by Kris Watkins and Southern Hoops Report, his Summer Showcase had some interesting names make statements. Here's Part 1 of 2.

[player_tooltip player_id='2324391' first='Colby' last='Mullinax'] | Guard/Forward | Thomas County | 2026

Among the most versatile players on hand, he played facing the basket with some good variety, while also dropping into the post and using his sturdy frame and 6-foot-3 size to back players down. Has small forward tendencies, but could be a 2 at the next level, but the lateral movement and foot speed need a little honing, as smaller quicker guards used burst to get past him. But the soft shooting touch and overall variety and creativity in his game made him the best player I saw all camp long.

[player_tooltip player_id='2297220' first='Chase' last='Mohn'] | Guard | Berkmar | 2027 (pictured at top)

The Walnut Grove transfer was a cool customer all day, showing the kind of poise which Coach Will Witherspoon at Berkmar will lean on. Cat quick with and without the ball, he glided past most defenders and was handsy and alert on D, swiping the rock from ball handlers or darting into passing lanes. Had a string early in the day where he went for 6 straight points, dished out a pair of sweet assists, and swiped two steals. That together with a big-time late-game blockout in a setting where most guys are stuck watching the ball, quickly set him apart from the other guards on hand.

Will Tyre | Guard | Walnut Grove | 2027

Following in the footsteps of older brother Nick, the younger Tyre is a bit taller and a bit larger-framed, allowing him to absorb more contact near the trim. A good shooter just like his brother, he's sneaky quick and athletic even though his movements might not be as fluid as the next guy. But the game is there, the IQ is there. Another inch or two and he could catch the eye of college coaches for the amount of game that is there to be unlocked.

[player_tooltip player_id='1543567' first='Trey' last='Rhodes'] | Guard | Middle Georgia Prep

Has had some travels in recent years, but certainly wasn't sitting around during those transition periods as his body looks like a Greek god, and his physicality was more than any other player could handle at the camp. Still gets off the ground with an explosiveness that belies his size, but that means little when you can dominate athletically like he can. Lots of tools there for his game inside the arc and facing downhill at the basket, it'll be interesting to see how his game at MGP shows off any improvements in the deep shooting game as he looks to move up to the next level.
