June 17-18 I watched the third ever Section-7 Qualifier. There were 96 teams in 6 pools of 16 teams each.

The 6 winners advanced to the official Section-7 June 20-22 versus some of the top teams on the West Coast.

I watched a bunch of full and half of some of the games. I obviously did not watch every team and when I watched, I am basing it on that performance and on the teams success combined.

Congrats to Arcadia, Centennial, Chaparral, Cienega, Dysart & Salpointe Catholic for earning spots into the weekends Section-7 Tournament.

4th Team Standouts

[player_tooltip player_id='2533594' first='CJ' last='Johnson'] Desert Edge

One of the top incoming freshmen's team may have not have won but he showed what he can be down the road. He can take over a game at any moment with his tight handle, skill from mid to the three, speed with the ball and get to the basket almost at will.

[player_tooltip player_id='1780585' first='Aidan' last='Lee Delafield'] Centennial

An athletic scoring guard is a bucket. He can go on his own personal runs with quick drives past his initial defender, rise up from mid-range to the three and can play above the rim on the break with bounce. He is also competitive on defense and is in line for a monster senior year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1570935' first='Kyler' last='Frye'] McClintock

A scoring lead guard can score it from all levels. He loves the middle area to operate from and will extend his range out to the three point line. He has enough speed and handle to create separation to get to the basket and/or rise up from mid-range.

[player_tooltip player_id='2386958' first='Isaiah' last='Gill'] Mountain View Marana (Pictured)

One of the quicker two-way pure point guards in all of Tucson. If he gets a step on you, he is at the rim to score with long arms and size. He is very fast in the open court and finds players with ease all over the floor. His lateral quickness is next level stuff to collect steals on the ball.

[player_tooltip player_id='2674056' first='Fitz' last='Guinan'] Coconino

Fitz is one of the better shooters that not many have heard of. He is a catch and shoot three point sniper. He has a easy stroke with a quick trigger and fires away. He rebounds well in area and he will have a big year up in Flagstaff.

[player_tooltip player_id='2884401' first='Thomas' last='Nanson'] Chaparral

A thicker framed power forward who can score thru the contact. The southpaw takes the bump well and scores thru the contact. He gets a lot of 50/50 balls with his motor and activity. He will be a key piece for this quickly improving team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1875584' first='Mykael' last='Nunez'] Mountain View Marana

A power forward who is a true inside and out threat. He will score it inside with euro steps, reverse layups and handle the pounding well with his rugged approach to the game. He will then hit the three off the catch and rebounds the ball at a high clip. He often gets himself to the free throw line with his motor. Gill and Nunez form one of the best Tucson duos.

[player_tooltip player_id='2734925' first='Jayson' last='Paulo'] Eastmark

A combo forward who can play inside and out. He has improved in the last year and likes the mid-range pull-up off the dribble but will give a hard ball fake and get to the basket downhill. He uses his frame to absorb the contact and score or get to the line.

[player_tooltip player_id='2492676' first='Omar' last='Rasul'] Salpointe Catholic

A warrior inside holds his ground versus bigger players deep in the paint. He has great hands and is very cerebral to make passes perfectly to a teammate and finds cutters. He will score with plus footwork and patience. He may have re-injured his knee unfortunately late in their Chip win but I believe he did play in the weekend's games.
