With new rankings in the work and the grassroots season in full swing, we decided it was time to take a look at some of the particulars that make certain prospects excel at specific parts of the game.

Today, we take a look at 7 of the most highlight worthy finishers in the 757 and 804 areas. These are the guards and wings that you don't want to jump with when they get downhill!

[player_tooltip player_id='2459361' first='Caleb' last='Straughter'] | 6'6” WF | Varina 2026

Straughter is really starting to turn the corner as a prospect, as the 6'5” wing has shown steady improvement over the past few years and has been on an absolute tear for VA Havoc this spring. At 6'6” with a long and wiry frame he's a versatile wing who can knock down shots, but he also has become more explosive over the years with his ability to get out in transition and finish with authority, as well as the ability to cut and catch and finish above the rim through traffic too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2803871' first='Xavian' last='Bagley'] | 6'6” WF | Banner Christian 2026

Bagley played a big part in leading Banner Christian to a VISAA D-IV state semifinal, and he's had a big spring with Team Richmond too showing his versatility and athleticism at his size as well. The 6'6” wing is able to use his length and athleticism to get deflections and challenge shots, he thrives in transition with his ability to get above the rim when he gets downhill, and on top of that he can score the ball from a number of levels as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2612840' first='Abraham' last='Taft'] | 6'5” WF | Hampton 2026

Taft earned Second Team All VHSL Class 5 honors during his junior season, and he's one of the most intriguing and underrated long term prospects with his blend of positional size, athleticism and budding skillset that keeps getting better every year. He's always been a big time athlete who thrives in transition with his ability to get on the rim with authority, he uses his athleticism to block shots and rebound at a high level, and he continues to improve his perimeter skillset as he's gotten much better off the bounce and scoring from multiple levels.

[player_tooltip player_id='2459380' first='Matiok' last='Deng'] | 6'4” WF | Denbigh 2026

Deng is another intriguing long term prospect who checks all the physical and athletic boxes with long arms and good pop as an athlete, as well as good versatility on both ends of the floor. While he stands 6'4” his wingspan is that of someone much taller and he uses that to block and challenge shots, he's a fluid athlete who can run the floor and get above the rim in transition, and he's continuing to hone his skillset to round out his game to make him more of a threat on the offensive end too.

[player_tooltip player_id='1963394' first='Zaevion' last='Cleveland'] | 6'4” WF | Landstown 2026

When it comes to just natural athletes in the 757, there aren't many you will find that are more explosive than Cleveland, who has been rocking rims and putting fear in shot blockers since he was a freshman. Standing 6'4” with a naturally strong frame he's absolutely fearless getting out in transition or getting downhill and will challenge anyone at the rim, he's able to defend and rebound against guys much bigger than him, and with his natural athleticism he picked up football his sophomore year and is already considered one of the best prospects in the 757.

[player_tooltip player_id='2898030' first='Abram' last='Schrinel'] | 6'5” F | Douglas Freeman 2027

While Schrinel isn't quite as explosive as some of the players on this list right now, he's still growing into his body and I think will take a big jump in that department that will take him to the next level with his already high motor and toughness. He has very long arms that allows him to get above the rim now when he gets out in transition, he plays very hard rebounding and jumping passing lanes, and once he gets a little stronger he'll be playing well above the rim with no problem here soon.

[player_tooltip player_id='2916383' first='Rashad' last='Shaw'] | 6'2” CG | Landstown 2028

Shaw is one of those special athletes as a guard his age, and he put on a show his freshman season for a Landstown team that was one of the youngest in the area but still made a run to the state tournament. The 6'2” combo can get on the rim off of one foot effortlessly in transition, he showed the ability to put it down off two feet in the half court when getting downhill, and he's only going to get more explosive as he gets older and grows into his body.
