The annual CBG Memorial Day Showcase took place on Saturday in Richmond, featuring some of the top teams from across the state in a one day event full of high level bump.

With the event featuring a lot of the top independent teams in the state, there were plenty of prospects who made a name for themselves, just in time for the updated rankings coming out next month.

Here's a look at 8 players who proved themselves at the event last Saturday.

Castner is one of the best kept secrets in the Charlottesville area, as the 6'5” wing was fantastic this past season for Western Albemarle, and he showed he can play with the best of them in two tough games at the CBG event. He's one of those players that has the size and length that checks the boxes for the next level, and then he's one of the top shooters you'll come across, as well as a very smart player who understands the nuances of the game. He was deadly from deep lighting it up in both of their games and showing the ability to make shots from well beyond the arc, he moves well without the ball and sets his feet with little to no wasted motion to get his shot off, and he is a very good help side defender who stays in gaps and jumps passing lanes too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2791029' first='MarJaylen' last='Jackson'] | 6'6” C | VA Havoc 17U

Jackson was one of the breakout players in the Charlottesville area this past season, playing a huge role in Albemarle's run to the Class 5 state championship, and he was dominant in the event going for 18 points in a win over [program_tooltip program_id='2078813' first='VA' last='Premier'] and 14 points in a close loss to Higher Level. The 6'6” big man owned the paint with his blend of physicality and finesse as a finisher, as he used his size to clear out space to finish and rebound, and showed great touch as well. He finished with both hands and showed soft hands catching tough passes, he was relentless on the offensive glass, he moved well off the ball to get open, and he showed sweet feet and used fakes and counters to create shots when he had the ball.

McHale Lancaster | 6'1” PG | CBG Elite 17U

Lancaster is one of the most underrated players in the Richmond area, and he showed that as he teamed up on the CBG Elite team as the only true point guard and was great running the show and creating shots for himself and others. When it comes to a lead guard, he has a lot of the intangibles coaches like, including great fundamentals and a quiet type of leadership where he'll keep players in check but also leads more by example than anything else. He was an extension of the coach showing the ability to execute sets on the fly and retain new information well, he handled pressure and made good decisions, he picked his spots and scored it efficiently and he was very good providing ball pressure defensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='2309825' first='Tiberius' last='Fields'] | 6'4” WF | [program_tooltip program_id='2078813' first='VA' last='Premier'] 17U

Fields transferred to Stuart Hall last year after being a standout at Harrisonburg, and he was instrumental in leading that group to the VISAA D-IV state championship, and in two tough matchups he showed he's worthy of scholarship coaches taking a look at him moving forward. The 6'4” wing has great physical tools with a strong frame and explosive athleticism that will translate well, and he has an underrated all-around skillset that makes him a walking mismatch on the floor. He can handle the ball in transition and can attack closeouts off the bounce, he's a very good finisher through traffic when he gets downhill, he can make open shots off the catch, and he's an underrated playmaker who is unselfish as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='2148857' first='Cole' last='Forbrich'] | 5'11” PG | Higher Level Purple 17U

Forbrich is the type of player you don't really think about when he steps on the floor, but that will quickly change when he comes out and starts to light you up, which he did for Higher Level Purple in their win over [program_tooltip program_id='2078813' first='VA' last='Premier'] Black. The 5'11” guard is a confident and skilled scorer who can fill it up in bunches from all over while also being very efficient in the way he does it. He has a tight handle and underrated burst when he changes speeds to blow by defenders, he can create space and knock down shots from deep and in the midrange off the bounce, and he's a crafty finisher who can draw contact and get to the line as well.

Gabe D'Alessandro | 6'4” WG | Team Loaded 757 17U

D'Alessandro was supposed to be a big part of Miller's run to a second straight D-II state championship before a hip injury sidelined him all season, but now that he's back and healthy he showed he can still hoop with the best of them. The 6'4” wing is still working to get back in shape and get some of the explosiveness he had pre injury, but he still showed his ability to fill it up while playing on or off the ball. He shot the ball well from deep making multiple three's in their win over Dreamchasers, he was an excellent secondary ball handler who handled pressure and made good decisions, and he still has great instincts on both ends of the floor.

Mark Stafford | 5'10” PG | NOVA Cavs 17U

Stafford played a pivotal role off the bench for St. Stephen's St. Agnes in their run to the VISAA D-I semifinal, and this weekend he thrived for a Cavs team as the primary ball handler and playmaker putting up big numbers in both of their games. Stafford's tenacity is what stands out the most, as he was very aggressive on both ends of the floor putting pressure on the defense and putting pressure on ball handlers defensively. He got downhill at will showing good burst and change of speed to do so, he finished well at the rim and in the midrange making tough shots, and he made winning plays in a lot of different ways too.

[player_tooltip player_id='2815380' first='Jayden' last='Banks'] | 6'5” WF | Higher Level 16U

Banks is an intriguing prospect who came on our radar after being called up from JV to varsity midway through the season for Highland School, and seeing him as a focal point for this Higher Level 16U group confirmed our thoughts of him as a prospect. At 6'5” he's a smooth wing who showed he can score it from all three levels both on and off the ball, he used his length to get deflections and challenge shots, and he's possibly still growing and will get more athletic with time. He recently reclassified to the 2028 class, which makes him an even more intriguing prospect down the line.
