This is the time of year that hoop heads like me live for. Some of my colleagues and I call it "May Madness"—so many tournaments, so little time. I decided to visit the Game Time Basketball - Capital of Texas Shootout in Buda, TX.   Let's be clear: you don't just need to score to truly stand out. We're talking about the guys who do the little things—locking up on defense, sharing the ball, crashing the boards, and winning those 50/50 plays. These are the kinds of players who fill up the stat sheet in ways highlight reels often miss.    Rowan is the definition of a hybrid guard/wing and was the catalyst behind Premier Elite's 2-0 showing. He has a strong frame that allows him to attack the paint at will and finish through contact with either hand. He's a threat from beyond the arc and shows off polished post-up moves on the block. But what stood out the most? His rebounding and vision—Rowan starts the break with confidence and delivers dime after dime, nearly averaging a triple-double on the day.     Jaxon is a true point guard. He's physical, has tight handles, and knows how to run a team. Defensively, he's a pest, and offensively, he led CTX to a perfect day with double-digit scoring. His midrange game is smooth, and he's a consistent three-point shooter. He rebounds well for his position and is reliable at the line—everything you want in a lead guard. He sets the tone on both ends and will be a fun watch this summer.     Harold was one of the most athletic players in the gym. A long, explosive guard, he made an immediate impression—locking up his man, grabbing the rebound, pushing the break, and delivering a perfect assist all in one sequence. He's physical at the rim, quick on the first step, and has a jumper that stretches to the arc. 979 Elite plays fast and aggressively—Harold was a defensive anchor, averaging 5 steals over two games. One highlight included him sprinting the floor after a trap and finishing with a monster dunk.     Jeremy brings a powerful mix of grit, athleticism, and finesse. His impact started with hustle, forcing turnovers, diving for loose balls, and locking in on defense. Then the offense came: clean handles, explosive drives, and a beautiful jumper. He impressed with his communication and IQ, especially in the press, calling switches, timing traps, and making the right reads. Jeremy can score at will, but he's also an unselfish playmaker—a high-IQ guard with all the tools.     Jeremiah is a true floor general who plays with poise and purpose. His energy sets the tone—he defends full court, plays at a high speed without losing control, and consistently makes the right read off the drive. He absorbs contact and finishes strong, and his jumper is steady. Twice, I watched him lock up his man 94 feet, bait a careless dribble, and pick his pocket for an easy bucket the other way. He's a coach's dream at the PG spot.
